Evelyn’s POV
I was speechless.
“Are you always this pushy, Alpha Asher?” I asked.
“When it comes to something I want, I’m very persistent-especially this time.”
I knew he was a tough businessman, always relentless, like a conqueror taking over everything in his path.
I knew he wouldn’t take no for an answer. But I couldn’t help thinking about my concerns
-all his girlfriends, Helena.
God, just thinking about his expression if I refused to sign the contract gave me chills.
How would he react?
Would he get so angry that he’d break everything in the room? Accuse me of using him? Demand I pay him back for all his help?
I couldn’t imagine it at all.
“I still have a few more hours. I’ll give you my answer when it’s time,” I mumbled, trying to put it off until the very last minute.
His green eyes studied my face, sharp as ever. I doubted anyone could withstand his gaze. Just as I felt he was reading my soul, he spoke:
“You sent your divorce papers to the court today, didn’t you?”
I nodded.
“Let me see the receipt,” he said, holding out his hand.
Grial
The receipt was in my pocket, but I found his request ridiculous. “You don’t trust that I’ve sent them out? I’m serious about divorcing Tristan! You don’t need to be on top of this.”
But his eyes insisted.
I pouted, pulling out the receipt and slapping it into his palm.
Instead of just taking it, he grabbed my hand.
His hand was big, enveloping mine entirely, and I felt like he had complete control over me. The places where our skin touched were on fire.
Once again, I had the urge to threw myself at him. I wondered if all his exes and hookups had felt the same way.
“This is an exchange,” he said in a hoarse voice his long fingers taking the receipt from my palm. “In exchange for your gift.”
My heart was pounding so fast it felt sickening “What gift?”
“You’ll find it in your room.”
He opened the car door and called over the driver waiting outside, “Take Miss Evelyn home.’
I rolled down the window and cried after him, “Wait! Where are you going?”
“See you tonight.”
He said without turning back.
He buttoned his suit and strode toward another car waiting for him. His secretary opened the door, and after he got in, they drove off.
but
On the way back, the driver explained to me, “Alpha Asher is flying to another city in an hour. An important meeting. Actually, he was supposed to be on the plane hours ago, he delayed it to see you.”
Elin let out a happy purr. I blushed, shushing her away.
Back at the villa, the maid led me to the room they’d prepared for me. Just like the villa’s exterior, everything inside was so just as luxurious.
For someone who grew up in a small wooden cabin in the north, it was hard to imagine people being born into this magnificent palace.
“I’ll leave you to rest now. Please ring the bell if you need anything,” the maid said with a smile, closing the door behind her.
I stretched and looked around, searching for my gift.
Soon, I found it—a large gift box on the bed.
It was tied with a ribbon, with a white rose and an envelope pinned to the corner. I picked
up the envelope. Even the paper was thick, textured, and scented-everything about this gift screamed power and wealth.
I opened it to find an invitation to a charity banquet tonight and a handwritten note.
I read the note first:
Join me in tonight’s banquet. The guests there are interested in think you’ll look beautiful in white. -Asher
you and
your project. P.S. I
