I widened my eyes angrily at the soldier.
He would never dare to do this without Damon’s permission.
This is low-even for Damon!
Isla exclaimed, “How could you! That dress is worth 5000 dollars! We had it custom-made for the banquet-”
“Well, it’s ruined now, so you have to stay in your room,” the soldier taunted.
I pulled the furious Isla behind me and gazed coldly at the soldier, “I will attend that banquet even if I have to go in a bathrobe! Now get the hell out of my way!”
He gritted his teeth, with a vicious expression, “Alpha Damon authorized us to use any means necessary to stop you…I don’t mind smacking your pretty ass.”
I let out a chilly laugh.
The combat skills I learned in Emerald Howl Pack hadn’t been used in a while.
Now seemed like the perfect time for some practice.
“Let her go.
A lazy voice came from behind us.
We all turned around to see Liam dressed in a janitor’s uniform, holding a broom and staring at the soldier blocking my way.
The soldier’s face twisted in contempt, “A filthy janitor! Get out of here!”
Liam dropped the broom and flexed his wrists, “Sure you won’t move? This could get ugly.
All the soldiers burst into laughter, “A goddamn janitor is threatening us! Get the hell out of here! I’m sure there’s a clogged toilet waiting for you somewhere”
BANG!
Liam lunged at the soldier, landing a heavy punch right on his face!
The soldier flew backward, slamming into the wall before collapsing to the ground and passed out.
The others screamed, reaching for their guns, but Liam moved astonishingly fast, disarming them all in a blink of an eyes.
With a swift kick, he sent a knife flying from another soldier’s hand.
In just a few seconds, all the soldiers were kneeling at Liam’s feet!
“Hey.”
Liam pointed a stolen gun at one of the soldiers kneeling on the ground.
“So, will you let Seraphina pass now?”
The soldier trembled like a leaf in the wind, pleading in a broken voice, “I’ll move-I’ll move! Please don’t shoot!”
I whistled and exclaimed, “Well done, Liam!
Liam strode over, grinning, “Not as good as you, but I can’t let myself get rusty.”
“What are you doing here by the way?”
“Trent sent me, to make sure you get to the banquet safely.” He glanced disdainfully at the soldiers on the ground. “Good thing I came. Though you could’ve handled these pricks yourself, it’s better not to mess up your perfect makeup and hair. So, shall we go?”
“But we don’t have a dress!” Isla remarked in frustration.
I was a bit at a loss as well.
I had spent so much time choosing that dress, to make sure that I gazed absolutely glamorous in front of everyone.
But now, my battle armor was ruined.
I kept telling myself that confidence is a woman’s best armor. But still I was a bit disappointed.
–
Just then we heard a steady set of footsteps coming from the end of the tall soldier strode over to us.
We though he was another one of Damon’s men sent to stop us. So we observed him warily. But when he reached us, he bowed respectfully to me.
“I’m a soldier from Obsidian Crest Pack. Alpha Caden sent me,” he remarked, handing me a beautifully wrapped box. “He asked me to deliver this gift to you.”
I took the box and opened it.
It was a stunning red dress, as dazzling as the flames!
I stood there in shock-how did Caden know I needed a dress?
“Just in time! Isla, help Seraphina get change!” Liam urged.
“Right away!”
Isla and I rushed back into the room and quickly changed into the dress. Miraculously, the dress fit me perfectly, hugging my curves in all the right places.
I didn’t even have time to check myself in the mirror before dashing out of the room.
Liam was still waiting outside.
The moment he saw me, his eyes lit up.
“Wow, Seraphina!” he exclaimed, “You look-absolutely stunning! You’re going to be the center of attention tonight!”
I grabbed his arm, hurrying down the hallway, “Thanks! We really need to go!”
A red convertible was waiting for us downstairs, with Caleb behind the wheel.
When he saw us appear at the entrance, he stood up in surprise. “Seraphina, where did you find that dress? You look absolutely-”
“Thanks, but we don’t have time for this!” I leaped into the car. “Let’s go! The banquet starts in 10 minutes!”
“That’s more than enough!” Caleb slammed on the gas.
The car shot forward like an arrow, racing toward the banquet venue.
Caleb expertly weaved through the traffic, shouting excitedly, “They never let me speed when I’m on duty, but this is awesome! I’ve been dying to do this for ages!”
The wind whipped through my hair and dress as I shouted back, “When we get back to Emerald Howl Pack, I’ll go racing with you again!”
“Deal!”
9 minutes later, the red convertible screeched into the driveway and came to an abrupt
stop.
–
I didn’t even wait for the valet to open the door for me I jumped out of the car in a flash.
“Go knock them off, Seraphina!” Caleb shouted from the car.
I waved to him as I sprinted up the steps. “Don’t forget our plan!”
“I won’t! I’m on it!”
I picked up my skirt and rushed up the stairs in my heels.
The front door had already fallen silent with all the guests inside.
As I reached the doors of the banquet hall, I heard Althea’s smug voice echoing from within: “…Seraphina won’t show up. Without Damon’s money, she can’t even afford clothes for such
a high-class event. She’s probably hiding in her room crying-”
That bitch!
I strode forward, pushed open the doors, and stepped into the dazzlingly lit hall.
“Sorry to disappoint you, Althea! But I’m right here!” I declared loudly.
