I recognized the bracelet.
A month ago, I’d seen the design sketch in Liam’s study.
Lotus blossoms carved into sandalwood, the clasp cleverly designed as overlapping leaves. A small gemstone nestled in the heart of each flower.
I’d thought it was a surprise for me.

was for Chloe.
Liam had started planning her gift over a month ago. He’d put so much thought into it.
For seven years, he’d meticulously planned my birthday gifts. One year, he’d even painstakingly folded a thousand origami stars, claiming it was to make up for my lost youth.
I’d cried at the origami stars, believing I’d marry him in my next life.
The irony was excruciating.
Another wave of pain, sharp and debilitating, tore through me. I stared at my phone screen. My mutual friends with Chloe had commented on Chloe’s post:
“Chloe, you’re so lucky! That sandalwood bracelet is exquisite; master–level craftsmanship! Your boyfriend is so thoughtful, and stylish!”
“He’s definitely got taste. Check out the diamond on that bracelet! It’s the 80–million–dollar diamond from last month’s auction! Chloe’s boyfriend is rich *and* stylish! You’re so lucky, girl.”
“Wait, didn’t Summer’s husband have a similar bracelet?”
“Yeah, looks like Chloe’s boyfriend is also in the same league as Summer’s husband. These two besties are incredibly lucky. Liam’s a famously devoted husband, and I bet Chloe’s boyfriend will be the next one in our circle.”
Chloe responded.
“My L can’t compare to Summer’s husband. My boyfriend is rich, but he’s always busy. But I’m content. He gets me whatever I want. I love swimming; he had a pool built. He likes energetic women, he’s a fitness freak, so I always work out with him.”
The comments exploded.
“Ooh, they’re getting it on, huh? In the pool?”
“You got the point! Chloe is living the high life. Lucky girl.”
“Who wouldn’t be happy with a man like that?”
Every comment was a dagger to my eyes.
Chloe was subtly implying that Liam preferred vibrant, healthy
I hadn’t been able to exercise for seven years…
Liam claimed it didn’t matter, yet he’d been working out with Chloe.
My heart pounded; I couldn’t bear it.
I fought back tears, telling the driver to take me home.
Once home, I hired workers.

I posted on social media: Leave a comment saying “Summer, fighting!“, and I’ll send you a gift. The post went viral; tens of thousands of people debated if I was
a Scammer.
I instructed the housekeeper to gather everything from “Summer’s Shop,” and called a shipping company. I shipped out gifts to everyone who commented…
I destroyed “Summer’s Shop” with my own hands…
Even Mrs. Lee, our housekeeper, looked distraught.“Ma’am, what’s wrong? Those were mementos of you and Mr. Sterling’s love!”
lementos of love?
It felt so cynical.
I no longer believed in love.
Four hours after posting, Liam arrived home, drenched in sweat. Seeing the empty “Summer’s Shop,” he stared at me, his eyes bloodshot, his voice pleading.
“Summer, what happened? Why did you give everything away?”
