Chapter 29
Chapter 29
The reporters were struck speechless. On the other hand, the Hartford family’s bodyguards were all bewildered by Summer’s response.
The reporter who was chosen first snapped out of his reverie. He quickly said, “Ms. Hartford, do you have anything to say about the videos of your cousin that are circulating on the Internet today?“,
“No.” Summer pointed at another reporter. “You’ll ask the next question. Ask something related to me.”
The reporters were all left flabbergasted by her response, whereas the bodyguards had shocked expressions on their faces.
“Um…” Summer’s calm composure was rather intimidating. The second reporter who was chosen was a little dazed. Fortunately, he had prepared his questions beforehand.
He asked sharply, “Ms. Hartford, some people think it may be a bit insensitive of you to show up at your school when your cousin is having a hard time because of the scandal.”
Summer looked at the reporter, feeling both annoyed and exasperated. “I’m a student. It’s only natural that I attend my classes at school. You should be questioning me if there’s ever a day I try to skip school or classes.”
Summer pointed randomly to another person again. “You’ll ask the third question. Ask something that makes more sense.”
Everyone was rendered speechless this time. The reporter who asked the second question felt as though his soul were about to leave his body.
The third reporter responded quickly, “Ms. Hartford, please stop giving us ambiguous answers. Most of us traveled a long distance to get here so that we could help the public gather more details of a possible case of sexual assault involving your cousin. Please give us a proper response to the public!”
Summer directed her gaze at the third reporter. “Why is the public trying to invade a victim’s privacy?”
The reporter paused briefly before asking, “Victim? Are you referring to your cousin?”
“Who else would I be referring to if not her?” Summer asked.
Usually, be it celebrities or public figures, these people were experts at giving vague answers when talking to reporters. Those who answered straightforwardly like Summer were very few.
“Since you claim that the public needs a proper response, I’ll offer one officially, then.
“There’s something I want to tell the so–called public you’ve brought up. For those going through something awful like that, your act of spreading the materials and making derisive comments about them would be equivalent to you hurting the victim a second time.”

eyes.
Summer paused briefly. Then, she looked into the camera with a steely look in her Please remember. No matter the circumstances and who they may be, the victims are definitely not the ones at fault.”
After saying that, Summer turned around and got into the car.
The reporters finally came to their senses and tried to move closer to the car to ask Summer more questions. However, the bodyguards managed to hold them off.
The car Summer was sitting in moved forward slowly. Eventually, they managed to leave the school gate area.
Robin sat in the front passenger seat. He was still in a daze. He lifted his gaze and glanced at Summer, who sat in the back, through the rearview mirror occasionally.
Summer sat with her back straight. Her face showed no emotions. She looked so calm that it was as though nothing had happened earlier.
“Ms/Hartford…” Robin called out to her in a gentle voice.
“Turn right in front. We’re not going to Hartford Manor. I’m staying at home tonight.” Summer did not even look up as she tapped swiftly on the phone. It was impossible to tell what she was doing.
“Understood…” Robin still felt pretty amazed.

Did turning 18 years old have such an overwhelming effect? Did one mature instantly after celebrating their 18th birthday?
The car moved at a steady speed as they headed for the Hartford residence. Just as they were about to reach home, Summer’s phone buzzed briefly. She looked down at it.
Some codes could be seen running on the screen of her phone. The chat window for a certain chat application’s account popped up on the screen.
It showed the conversation between Becca and a reporter.
The contents of the messages were pretty much like what Becca had told Annie earlier about how they would release the articles to slander Summer.
