Chapter 41: Claire’s POV
I sit in the fetal position silently as Leo wraps a blanket around me.
“I called my private investigator and they found the cab company.” He says quietly as he sits down beside me.
“Did they find the guy?” I fidget with my fingers as I wait for a response.
“No. He wasn’t registered to drive it so I called in a favor. My investigator is going to get the footage from the cab’s surveillance.” He touches my hands to calm me but I feel sick to my stomach.
“What if they don’t catch him?” I whisper quietly as if someone was listening.
“I will get him, Claire. He will pay for what he did to our son.” He says as he kneels in front of my face.
I begin sobbing and crouch my face into my knees. They had killed my son before I ever got the chance to meet him and even that wasn’t enough. What could I have done to deserve this?
“Come on, how about we go get you showered and into bed?” He asks while gently helping me to my feet.
As soon as I enter the bathroom, Leo brings in a set of clothes and leaves slowly. I watch in confusion as I see Jasmine step in.
“Hey babes, I’m going to help you shower and make sure you’re okay. Is that okay with you?” She says as she walks over to help me with my hair which has become a sloppy mess.
“How about we sit down and I brush your hair and tie it up for you?” She says softly.
“Okay.” I say as I sit carefully. All the confidence and strength I acquired after my divorce was gone. I felt vulnerable and targeted. I sigh as Jas does my hair.
“Do you want me to have Leo stay with you while you shower? I can stay if you need me to.” She smiles softly as me but I could tell that she worried. I can never express how grateful I am for her.
“Please. I just don’t feel safe right now.”
“That’s okay. I’ll go get him. Yell if you need me.” She says as she steps out of the bathroom, closing the door behind her. A moment later, Leo peeps his head in.

Chapter 41: Claire’s POV
“Jasmine said you called for me. Is everything okay?” He was concerned about not overstepping my boundaries. Something I wasn’t yet used to when it came to him. “Can you stay with me while I shower? I didn’t want Jasmine to be uncomfortable.” He nods his head and steps in. He sits down on the ledge of the tub adjacent to the shower and stares at his feet as I undress. I almost expected him to watch but I’m grateful for his kindness.

“I understand.” I shower in silence but can feel his presence still in the bathroom. Oddly enough, his presence still brought me the same peace he once did.
