Chapter 39: Charlotte’s POV
I could feel that it was only a matter of time before Leo’s mother voiced her displeasure of me to Leo and sung praises of Claire. I needed to act quickly if I was to fulfill my vow of never allowing Claire to return to him so I quickly grabbed my phone and quietly texted my henchman. I knew better than to call with Elena close by. That useless woman would make matters worse by foiling my plans in order to protect that wretched Claire.

“I have another job for you.” I type and hit send.
“Find someone else. I’ve seen the papers. Your daddy’s assets are frozen.”
“What a vile thing to say to those who pay you.” I had always kept a separate account for emergencies. I had well–enough to pay for this request.
“Unless you can pay, my answer is no.”
“I can pay.” I type back as I send a payment of $50,000 to his account. He must’ve received it by the reply.
“Okay, I’m listening.” Exactly what I needed to hear.
“I need you to pay my last request a little visit. She’s no longer pregnant but now I need you to fix her hand. I’ll be sending you the address of her office. I want it done by tomorrow night.” I seethe as I type my demands.
“A deadline costs extra.” Shameless.
“Money is of no concern. You will receive the full payment once I hear news of its‘ doing.”
“After this is done, don’t contact me again. Are we clear?” I smile at the response. Once this is done, he’ll be of no use to me anyways.
“Crystal.” I answer before putting my phone away in the night stand at my bedside.
By this time tomorrow, Claire’s career will be as dead as that wretched seed she was growing in her stomach and the thought alone – tickled me.
I lay in bed, waiting for Leo to return. Suddenly I hear the front door open and grab my walker. I stage a little wobble as I walk out of my room to meet Leonardo in the foyer.
“Leo, I’m so happy you’re back!” I say softly with a smile.
“Charlotte, I thought you’d be sleeping by now.” He says as he hangs his tuxedo up and hands it to Elena. I watch as she leaves before returning my attention to Leo.
“I saw the event of television. How honorable of you to announce Claire’s award! I hope you sentenced my congratulations to her!” I smile as I lie effortlessly.
“I will make sure to call her in the morning and let her know. I see you’re much more stable in walking today.” He says with a smile. He was easily fooled.

“Oh! Yes! I’ve been practicing. The physical therapist says I should be able to walk without the walker by next week with the way I’m progressing.” It wasn’t a lie. The therapist did say that. Although she had no prior knowledge that I never actually stopped walking in the first place.
“That’s marvelous news, Charlotte!” He says as he puts his hand over mine.
“Let me get you to bed. You must be exhausted.” He says as he carefully lifts me up and carries me to my room.
I breathe in his familiar scent and can’t help but imagine him carrying me to his bed in this same fashion very soon.
