Chapter 37: Charlotte’s POV
Chapter 37: Charlotte’s POV
I watch from around the corner as Elena watches the television in the living room outside my bedroom. What useless help she is. But then I see exactly what she is looking at. Leonardo is announcing the Architectural Success Event and to my surprise – Claire is also there. I tip–toe back to my room to make a call to Leo’s mother. Certainly, she wouldn’t approve of this and she would have no issue in vocalizing her disdain of Claire. That would help Leo see his way
back to me.
“Hello Mother!” I play kindly as I hear her pick up.
“Hello Charlotte, what a late hour to be receiving your call?” She says politely.
“I’m sorry for my absence but I wanted to know if you saw Leo on television today?”
“I did. He did a fine job announcing the nominees and the winners of each award.” She knew? She saw Claire attend the event and said nothing?
“Did you know Claire was there?” I ask quickly as I felt left out of the equation.
“I did. She’s been awarded a marvelous reward.” She says without a hint of hatred.
“An award?” I ask as if I had heard incorrectly.
“Yes, I congratulated her, myself.”
“I thought you didn’t like Claire. Has Leo told you I can walk now?” I ask as I don’t believe he’s told anyone – seeing as no one has offered to celebrate me which was what I expected.
“He did but I did read the newspaper and see your father was arrested. What a shameful act.” He says as she judges me.
“It’s all a misunderstanding. It will be sorted out.” I say as a quick response.
“Charlotte, now that your fathers‘ crimes have come to light. I think it’s best if you leave my son’s home. Our family is no longer willing to endorse his company and we believe your involvement with Leo would hurt his company.” She says as though it’s nothing more than
fact.
“But I love Leo and he’s agreed to let me stay here?” I was confused by her request.
“I don’t think you being together is going to be beneficial for him. Your family is broken, your reputation is tarnished and now that you’re healed, you can move on. Consider my words carefully.” With that, Leo’s mother hangs up on me.
Has Claire done something to her too? How dare she judge my father and reject me as Leo’s partner! I have always had her acceptance and approval when it came to my relationship with Leo and now she requests that I end it and leave his home? Did Leo feel the same?
It’s seems that Claire’s new profound success has swayed his mother’s mind into accepting the wretched little peasant and my father’s decisions put me at a disposition. I could not lose
