Chapter 28: Claire’s POV
The next day, I met with Jordan and got to see the company location. It wasn’t far from the cafe where he offered me the job originally. It went well and I was given the task of working on a few structural designs to send to the 3D designers for a mock–model to be developed. It had been a week since I started and I finally felt a sense of normalcy. Jordan has been super helpful and we’ve been working on a few projects together in his office. It’s been great having a friend to talk to and a boss that believed in me.
As I finished my last structural blueprint and email it to the 3D designers, Jordan comes to my desk.
“How are things coming along?” He asks as he leans against my desk.
“Great! I just sent the last blueprint over to the next team. They said the mock–models should be ready for inspection within the next two weeks.” I smile as I close my laptop and put my tablet away.
“Wow, you’re probably the most productive worker I’ve ever had.” He laughs and rubs the back of his neck.
“Well, I want to make sure I’m an asset after you put so much trust in me. I’d hate to let you down.” Jordan had given a chance when no one else did. Not only that, but he’s believed in me for years and he’s been there for me a lot lately.
“Well, in that case, I’d say a celebration in is order. Would you be willing to join me for dinner?” He asks shyly.
“That sounds nice.”
“Great, I’ll pick you up from Jasmine’s at 7pm tonight?
“See you then.” With that, Jordan walks me out of the office and locks up for the evening.
I get in a cab and head back to Jas‘ house to share the news but get side–tracked by an incoming call from my ex–husband Leo.
“Hello?”
“Hello Claire, I hope you’re doing well. I wanted to talk to you about something.”
“Okay.” What could Leo possible have to tell me? I know Leo still wanted me back and he made it clear that he would wait for me but I haven’t changed my mind.
“I know you started working for Jordan and I’m proud of you for getting back into your career but my team did some investigating on some construction work he’s done in our area – they owners are reconstructing all their builds after being price–gouged and finding that the construction was not permitted and cheap materials were being used rather than the pre- ordered materials they paid for.”
What was Leo talking about? Jordan would never do something like that.

“Why would you accuse Jordan of such a thing?” I ask calmly, I didn’t want to be offended by Leo’s accusations but it seemed like he was doing this out of jealousy not being protective of
- me.
“Claire, Jordan is not a trustworthy person. He signed contracts with these buyers and
promised them top–quality materials and construction and what he delivered is the equivalent to biodegradable. I just want you to be safe.”
“I don’t believe you. I’ve known jordan for years and he’s always been a good friend. Is this about me working for him?”
“No, I just want to make sure you don’t get caught in an illegal scandal.”
“I’ll just ask Jordan myself. Thanks for the information, Leo.”
“I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, Claire.” I hang up without another word.
I couldn’t believe the accusations Leo had made. I wanted to hear Jordan’s side and I had the perfect opportunity being that Jordan and I were going to dinner tonight.
