Chapter 27: Claire’s POV
It’s been a few days since I had left Leonardo. I had read the decree for our divorce and signed it after contacting his attorney and removing a few unnecessary addendums. Leo had tried to include a monthly alimony agreement, an apartment and a vehicle as part of my benefits but I refused. His attorney was hesitant but I refused to sign until he sent an updated decree following my requests. I didn’t want Leo to support me. I wanted to start over. I had already lost everything.
I hear at knock at my bedroom door and figure that it was Jas coming to check on me per usual. I knew I was right when I saw her peek in.
“They delivered your documents for the finalization of your divorce. Should I get win or tissues hun?” She had been great at checking in on me. I felt bad springing my problems onto her.
“I’m okay, Jas. I could use a hug though.” She scrambled in, sits on my bed and pulls me into a hug. I was grateful that she let me stay with her.
“I’m so sorry. You didn’t deserve this, Claire.”
“Thank you.” I hug her tightly.
“Has he reached out to you after you left?” He meaning Leo.
“He tried. He texted me asking me not to change the terms of our divorce but I told him that it was my choice.” I watch as Jas pulls back to look me in the eyes..
“You know you’re welcome here as long as you like.”
“I know. He also texted me after I sent in the paperwork saying that he had signed and he would continue to support me in whatever I do.” He was still holding onto hope that I’d come
back.
“Well at least he’s being kind. You deserve that.”
“Yeah. I think I’m going to call Jordan today and see if that job offer still stands. I can’t hide in bed forever.”
“That sounds like a great idea. I’m going to go pick out fabrics for my next project. Call me if you need anything at all, okay?” She gives me one last hug before leaving the room.
I pull out my phone and call Jordan.
“Claire? Is everything okay?” Jordan made a habit of worrying about me lately.
“Hey Jordan, everything’s fine. I was calling to see if maybe that job offer was still on the table?”
“For you? Always. How about we meet tomorrow and I show you around the office so you can get a feel for it and we’ll go from there?”
7/2
“That would be great, thank you Jordan.” I may list everything but having this job would help me heal and hopefully keep me busy until I was ready to cope with everything that has become my life these last few weeks. I still wanted to rebuild and grow in my profession even if the reason for it, wasn’t the child 1 held so dear.
