Chapter 24: Claire’s POV
I wake up in a hospital bed. I look over and see Jordan is sitting in the chair beside me holding my hand. I give his hand a squeeze.
“Thank you.” It comes out as just a rasp.
“Claire, you’re awake! Are you okay?” He gets up frantically, holding my hand in his and looks at me with concern.
“My baby.” I say as I remember seeing blood. My whole body aches but none of that mattered at this
moment.
“I’ll go get the doctor. I wasn’t allowed to be in the room until just a few minutes ago.” I watch as Jordan runs out and call for a nurse, letting her know I was awake. Jordan comes back in and grabs my hand again.
“I found your husband’s phone number and left a voicemail. I’m sure he’ll be here soon and the nurse is going to get your doctor.” I slowly bring my hand to caress his cheek.
“Thank you.” I say between tears.
“It’s okay, Claire. Don’t cry. You know I’d do anything for you.” He says as he wipes my tears.
“How did you find me?”

Chapter 24: Claire’s POV
“Well you were in the warehouse district and that’s where we store excess materials, test structural pieces and make our large 3D models. Why were you there?” He asks quietly.
“Someone paid a guy kidnap me and – and kill my baby.” I begin sobbing uncontrollably, holding my hands over my face. I feel arms around my shoulders.
“I’m so sorry, Claire. We’ll find out whoever did this. I promise.” Jordan held me as I sobbed. Moments later, the doctor comes in and I try to compose myself.
“Hello Claire, I’ve been tending to you since you arrived. I have some news to share with you if you’re ready.” He waits for my response and I nod slowly as I stare down at the blanket.
“Okay, we can stop at any time if you need too. You suffered a laceration to your temple, we were able to surgically glue it together for you but you do have a mild concussion, meaning you should be very careful for the new few days – headaches are normal during this time. You have multiple scrapes and bruises on your wrists, elbows, arms, ribs and knees but those are superficial and should recover in about 1-2 weeks. And lastly, I’m sorry to have to tell you this – Claire, you suffered a miscarriage. The baby suffered an amniotic abruption due to the impact of your fall we could’ve save him.”

Chapter 24: Claire’s POV
Him? They couldn’t save my son?
I break down sobbing and cling to Jordan and he tries to sooth me by leaning my head on his chest. I feel every fiber in my being – breaking.

“I’ll give you a moment. Please ask the nurse for me if you have questions or concerns. Again, I’m very sorry.” The doctor leaves although I hardly notice as I begin hyperventilating. Jordan holds me and tries to steady me – stroking my hair gently and shushing me, telling me it’s going to be okay.
Just as I begin to breathe steadily, I hear my phone ringing. Jordan hands it to me and I see it is Leo.
I answer quietly “hello?”
“Claire, where the hell are you? I have a voicemail from Jordan saying you got hurt?!” He sounds panicked.
“I’m at the hospital.” I say in a deadpan voice. He
wasn’t to be bothered when I needed him most.
When our baby was still alive.
“I’m coming now! Don’t move a muscle. I’ll be there soon. I love you.” He hangs up and I lay back down on my side – sobbing.
