Chapter 19: Claire’s POV
Chapter 19: Claire’s POV
I could see the jealousy in Leo’s eyes. I planned on asking what he was doing here but he grabbed my arm and began pulling me towards the front door of the cafe. I look back and see Jordan has stood up and I give a small apologetic smile. I didn’t want him to think Leo was hurting me and I didn’t want either of them to cause a scene. Jordan understood a gave a slight wave with a look that left no imagination as to what he felt. He was concerned.
As we left the cafe, I feel Leo’s grip loosen and he opens the back of the private town car’s door for me. Leo only ordered a private blacked–out vehicle and driver when he was either emotional and decided against driving or when he had meetings on the go. I can’t understand why there was one here now or why I watched him send the driver away while we entered.
I get in slowly and quickly turn to face Leo as gets
- in.
“What are you doing here?” I ask snappily.
“Claire, you are my wife! I don’t need to explain to you that it’s completely inappropriate for you to see other men while we’re still married!” He was more than angry. He was jealous and furious.
“What the hell are you talking about, Leo?” Seeing

other men? Married? I was not sleeping with anyone and I most certainly didn’t need to explain myself after the scene Leo had just caused.
“I saw you laughing and looking at that guy through the window and you left the house without even a word. I had to find out that you had left from Charlotte!” He looked at me bewildered.
“Leo, I don’t need your permission to leave the house. I’m there to take care of Charlotte and she
didn’t need me at that moment. And I am a grown woman – I am allowed to go and see who I please.” I was starting to get annoyed by this situation.
“I will not sit back and watch you have an affair with that guy!”
“Leo, you’re not sitting back and watching anything.
I’m not having an affair and I can’t believe you would accuse me of such a thing!” I was insulted.
He had embarrassed, humiliated and insulted me.
“I won’t let anyone take you from me, Claire. I love you.” He was serious. He said this as though it were almost a guarantee or a threat. I knew Leo would never harm me intentionally but it felt like he was becoming desperate in trying to get me back.
I wish he knew that that’s not how this worked. His only enemy when it came to us – was him.

“You don’t need anyone else, Claire. I know you. I love you. I crave you and I shouldn’t have to tell you this.” That wasn’t what I needed to hear but before I’m able to respond, Leo grabs my face and pulls me into a kiss. It was hot, desperate and tantalizing.
As much as I was upset at him, I equally missed him and his touch. I had only been touched by Leo for more than five years and I was pregnant with his child – even though he didn’t know it.
I lost myself in the moment temporarily as Leo kissed me with so much passion. He climbed over me, holding my face and for a moment, I forgot what I was so upset about. That was until I felt Leo trying to pull up my dress.
“Leo, no.” I stop and look up into his eyes.
“I just want to remind how much I love you and how good I can make you feel. You’re mine.” He says as he tries to slowly lift my dress again and rub my inner thigh.
“No, that’s the problem Leo. I’m not yours. I’m not your property, I’m a person. You can’t just keep me on a shelf – waiting for your dedication and attention. Sex won’t fix it this time.” I sit up, readjust my dress and look at the hurt on Leo’s face.
“I don’t want sex to fix it, Claire. I want to fix it. I want you to move back into our room. The room

we’ve shared for over five years. I want you to accept my apologies and I want you to wear your ring with pride. I want to fix what I’ve broken.” I watch as Leo opens his hand and in his palm – I see my wedding ring. He had been holding onto them in his pocket the entire time.
“I don’t think now is the right time to make that decision. I’m going to get a cab and go back to the house. I’ll apologize to Jordan for your behavior earlier.” I closed his hand over the rings and went to open the car door but Leo stops me.
“At least take this car, I need to get some air and I’d rather you be safe.”
I nod and watch as Leo calls the driver to return and begins down the block towards the nearest bar. I watch as we drive past him with tears in my eyes.
I then pull out my phone and texted a genuine apology to Jordan for the scene my husband has caused.
If only things could be simple.
