Chapter 18: Charlotte’s POV
Chapter 18: Charlotte’s POV
I listened carefully as Claire unpacked her things and tidied up her new room upstairs. She had conveniently taken the room right above mine. Seeing that I’m “disabled“, Leo had the guest room downstairs already prepared for my arrival. I waited for Claire to make an appearance downstairs for a few hours. Taunting her gave me great pleasure but I didn’t enjoy waiting.
After waiting for what felt like ages, I could hear Claire’s footsteps descending the master hall staircase leading to the living room and kitchen. I was about to stroll out casually in my chair but I saw her rummaging frantically through her bag as she held a glass of water. I watched carefully from around the corner as she made a call to someone named ‘Jordan.‘ Was Claire really stupid enough to cheat on Leo? I listened to her conversation and waited for my opportunity.
Once Claire went to the kitchen, o took advantage of her Adsense. I stood out of my wheelchair ( temporarily abandoning my disguise of course), ran to her bag and searched for the business card. I then ran back to my wheelchair, sat down and watched as Claire left. She almost made it easy. She didn’t even notice the mess I had made of her bag although she was more concerned with packing snacks in it – oddly enough.

I then asked the housekeeper to fetch Leo from his room upstairs. He was going to want to hear this.
I waited for him to come to my room.
“Is everything alright, Charlotte? I was told you needed to talk to me.” Leo appeared in the doorway. He seemed defeated. Was he really upset about Claire moving into another room? I can’t understand why he would even miss her.
“I don’t want to be a burden to you, Leo. But I just heard something that I think you should know.” I say innocently – just as I practiced it.
“What is it?” He stood there confused.
“I was about to go to the kitchen as I heard Claire come downstairs and I noticed she was on the phone. I saw her call the number on this card and said she’d meet whoever she was talking to at the Brew–new Cafe in ten minutes.” I hand Leo the card and watch as he snatches it from my hand and read the name perfectly printed at the bottom.
Jordan Taylor.
I expected to hear Leo call Claire a whore or a low- life but instead, I watch as he turns around and asks the housekeeper to grab his coat.
“I’ll be back later, Charlotte. Thank you for telling me the truth.” He leaves and closes the door behind

him.
I didn’t expect for him to chase her but it’s better that he sees her with another man with his own eyes, so that he can stop trying to win that peasant back. I would be walking “again” soon and I wanted to be back at Leo’s side – the way we were before everything went wrong.
