Chapter 11: Leonardo’s POV
I came home expecting to see Claire. I owed her a conversation. What I didn’t expect to see was her gathering her things – packing them all. I knew I had taken things a little too far today with my reactions and felt obligated to apologize after seeing how upset I had made her. I thought she was upset that I had demanded an apology be given to Charlotte.
I didn’t expect to hear my wife was moving out. I tried to talk and reason with her. I even offered her the chance to veto an apology to Charlotte in an effort to correct my wrongs and have her reconsider. It angered her more. It wasn’t hard to tell that what I had done today – had broken her.
I had broken her.
So much so, that she asked me for a divorce and returned the ring I had made specially for her when I asked her to spend her life by my side. A ring that was worth more to me than my entire fortune.
And I watched her leave right from our bedroom window. I didn’t have the ability to chase her. I was in complete shock. I should have done more. I should have chased her. Or better yet, I should have listened to her. Or try to believe her.
But I didn’t do any of those things. Instead, I came

to the defense of Charlotte. I blamed and ostracized Claire. I ostracized my wife on our wedding anniversary. My actions today were less than honorable and with Claire gone, I was left to ponder
them alone.
I didn’t want to lose my wife. I never intended to
lose her.
And I never realized how empty the room would feel without her belongings – her essence. I felt lost in that moment. Claire had made this house a home and without her, it was but a dwelling. No life, no happiness and no purpose.
I take out the bracelet I had failed at gifting her from my pocket and look at the ring she placed ever so carefully in my hand. Could I have been wrong?
I ruined our anniversary. I shoved my wife aside both physically and emotionally. I humiliated her and abandoned her repeatedly.
But I didn’t want to lose her.
I take out my phone and decide to call my lawyer.
I ask that he transfer some of my company’s shares under Claire’s name. She deserved at least that. But
she then I’m struck my another memory,
desperately wanted to tell me something at my family home earlier today. She had begged me to listen to her.

What was it?
I asked her in the hospital but she resigned, saying we could speak about it later at home.
Why didn’t she bring it up?
It was so important to her earlier today. Yet, she left without even a mention of what it could be. Even
though, it was so important to her.
