Chapter 10: Leonardo’s POV
Chapter 10: Leonardo’s POV
Could Clair and Charlotte have argued? Something must’ve happened when they were alone.
I remember Charlotte’s scream reaching the house and gaining everyone’s attention and myself running to her as fast as I could.
I had seen some of what happened. As I stood at the top of the hill, I had seen Charlotte’s wheelchair tip to one side, Charlotte falling to the ground and her forehead starting to bleed. Then Claire panicking while trying to help Charlotte back into her chair and Charlotte dodging her hand and cowering as if she were afraid.
I remember running to help Charlotte, shoving Claire to the ground and not caring about her in that moment.
Then after Charlotte was assessed, I argued with Claire.
She should’ve taken care of Charlotte. She should’ve protected her.
I know she said it wasn’t intentional but I knew Claire was upset that I had skipped our anniversary to be at Charlotte’s side to celebrate the news. I still didn’t believe her.
But after having a moment to think, I realized she

had made some valid points. I have known Claire for years and she isn’t the kind of person to hurt
anyone.
Maybe it was just accident and Charlotte’s wheelchair did get stuck – causing her injuries.
But it wasn’t a secret that Charlotte got injured while she was alone with Claire. And despite the truth, my family and friends will think Claire did it on purpose. That she would intentionally hurt a disabled woman. They would stand by Charlotte.
Claire and I don’t share the same background. We come from different families and that’s what has made it so difficult for my family to accept her. And after what happened today, they will be even more prejudice to her – resentful of her being my wife.
If she would just apologize, everyone would see Claire’s accountability and maybe that would put an end to this.
The only problem is, I can’t force Claire to apologize when she didn’t want too.
I heard the hoarseness of her voice as she tried to hold in her emotions.
Then she rejected me and my offer. She turned away and left. Not even a glance in my direction as I called out to her.
I could see her posture changed as she walked away

– she was crying.
I felt an ache in my heart that mimicked pain causing me to breathe heavily: I had never seen her cry like that before.
I walked to the corridor window nearby and I see Claire talking to someone on the phone.
Her face soaked in tears. She looked exhausted and I could tell she was in pain. I watched from the window until I see her get into a taxi and leave.
Maybe she was headed home.
Maybe we could finally talk about what she wanted so desperately to tell me earlier at my family home tonight.
