Chapter 27 – Alice
“Get her out of here right now!” Alice’s order reverberated through the garden, and even herself was surprised at how firm she seemed, especially because there had been few times in her entire life when she had had the opportunity to take control, but even so she remained with her expression unchanged, determined to expel those people who were disturbing Massimo.
“Get me out of here…? Do you really think you can kick me out of the farm that belongs to my family…?” Emma growled, her voice rising even more as Joshua and his men began to approach “Don’t you dare touch me…”
“Let’s go, mom.” Dante held her arm, almost as if she were a mischievous child trying to throw a tantrum “This has gone too far already.
“How can you want to leave after these people offended me like this?!” she gasped, but Dante was unfazed, as his tone only became even firmer.
“You know that nothing can be decided without an official meeting with Massimo, so all of this is only serving to wear you both down.” He argued, continuing to pull her away “Besides, we’re surrounded by Massimo’s employees. Do you really think that photos and even a video of you losing your composure won’t be in the top photo of every gossip sites tomorrow?” His question caused Emma’s posture to change immediately “That’s what I thought. So, pleas let’s go, so no one will have to participate in a scandal. And, Massimo…” his blue eyes, so similar and at the same time so different from Emma’s, turned to his half–brother “I wish the best in your recovery. Any official decision made by Mr. Griffin will be communicated to you on the same day. Goodbye.”

Finally, as upset as she seemed, Emma didn’t fight when her son began to follow her toward. the gate, their security guards surrounding them like a wall while Joshua’s cowboys escorted them. Still, even when they were already crossing the property line and almost impossible to distinguish from the horizon line, Alice’s body remained tense and her hands on Massimo’s shoulders, until he moved abruptly, moving out of her reach and beginning to spin the chair in the direction of the house.
“Massimo…” Alice tried to call him with a murmur, while Millie hugged her leg even tighter
You…”
If
you don’t want me to say something you don’t want to hear…” Massimo’s cut her off, harshly “Then shut up.” He continued to move the wheels of the chair, even dodging one of the cowboys who was still there and tried to hold onto his chair “Get your hands off me! Everyone thinks not, but I’m still able to enter my own house. So fuck off and leave me alone! All of you!”
“Please, Massimo…” Even though she knew that wasn’t a good idea, Alice still continued to try to get closer to him, worried about the way his teeth were clenched and his body tense, as if he wasn’t just angry, but also in pain “I’ll let you rest, but first let me check your bandages and make sure you’re okay. All this stress is not good for you…

Chapter 27–Al
“Didn’t you understand?!” Massimo shouted, at the same moment that Alice was almost reaching for his arm, turning to face her, the veins in his eyes dilated, turning the white into red, so enraged when during his conversation with Emma and Dante “I want to be alone! Don’t think you did this act of trying to defend nie, you’re going to get something from me! So get out of my way, before I kick you off my land along with that bitch and her son….!” He extended his finger toward her face, his screams growing louder, until a restless movement nearby seemed to catch their attention.
And there was Millicent, huddled next to the two of them, looking at Massimo not only as if she were facing a frightening monster, but also looking extremely hurt, for a reason that Alice needed a moment to remember.
“1…” Massimo stammered, all the heat of his fury disappearing in a matter of seconds “I mean
That’s not what I meant, Millicent… I just…”
Before he could find the right words to explain himself, however, Millie ran out, hugging Hoppy and some of her toys, darting toward the mansion, a few thin sobs letting Alice know she was crying.
“Congratulations.” She growled, now being the only one who was mad at him “You just scared an innocent child who wanted more than anything to become your friend.”
“I… I didn’t mean too…” as if he was almost lost, Massimo tried to explain himself, watching Millie disappear through the doors of the mansion “I didn’t remember she was still here. If I had remembered…”
“Then that’s it? Do you think it’s okay to be rude like that to people who care about you, just because there are no children around?” she spat, her hands balling into fists “Do you know? It does not matter to me. Thanks to you, now I have to go console my daughter and assure her that we won’t be evicted from yet another house. That her stepfather is just a bitter and sullen man who forgets the suffering he is inflicting on others, worried about his own. Maybe, when you finally get your head together once and for all, you can ask Millicent for forgiveness.” Alice growled, turning to go to her poor baby, as she heard him grumblé behind her back. 2
“You do not need to worry about me. Neither you nor she will ever have the displeasure of seeing my face again.”
