Chapter 6
Lila’s fall quickly became the hottest gossip on the school forum.
No names were mentioned at first, but it didn’t take long for everyone to figure out I was the “culprit.”
Everywhere I went, I could feel the whispers.
“Apparently, she pushed someone down the stairs.”
“No way! She doesn’t look like the type.”
“Hasn’t it been investigated yet?”
“Come on, she’s been obsessed with Ethan forever. Totally believable.”
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to slap a few faces.
They didn’t even wait for the facts before spinning their own narrative.
And Lila? She made it worse by posting a melodramatic article on the forum, painting me as some jealous, bitter villain.
Thankfully, the police worked quickly.
They found a video taken by another student, clearly showing Lila tripping while trying to grab the soup from me.
Cleared my name.
But when I saw Lila again, she had the audacity to sneer.
“That doesn’t mean you didn’t want to push me.”
That was it. I slapped her across the face.
Of course, Lila wasn’t one to back down.
She lunged at me, and we ended up in a full–blown fight.
Ethan eventually showed up and pulled us apart.

Chapter 6
He didn’t say a word to me. Instead, he turned to Lila, his tone calm and cold.
“You okay?”
“I’m fine. Let’s just get back to the experiment,” she replied.
Not once did he glance my way.
Not even at the scratches on my hand from Lila’s nails.
In that moment, I felt like I couldn’t breathe, like something inside me was dying.
After leaving the nurse’s office, it was late.
I worried Ethan might skip dinner, so I went to the cafeteria to grab takeout for him.
On the way out, it started raining.
I texted him, asking if he could bring me an umbrella.
Half an hour later, he finally replied: “Lila passed out from low blood sugar. I’m taking her to the
nurse.”
I stared at the message, gripping the takeout box tightly, my heart aching.
The rain poured harder, soaking through my clothes as the wind whipped against me.
Even standing under the cafeteria awning wasn’t enough.
When I finally got home, Ethan still wasn’t back.
Shivering, I fumbled for the medicine box, made myself a cup of cold medicine, and wrapped myself in a blanket on the couch.
I must’ve dozed off, because when I woke up, Ethan was home.
