Chapter 8
Kimberly Vincent.
It had been a long time since I’d heard that name.
But it hadn’t faded from my memory. She was the one who killed my baby. She deserved it.
I enjoyed hearing that. Lucia was excited as she spoke on the other end of the phone.
“Do you remember when you went abroad and the cops were about to arrest Kimberly? I nodded. “Yes, I do.”
At that time, I had just collected the evidence, but before I could report it to the police, I was severely injured and hospitalized, and in the end, Antonio got ahead of me.
“Well, that Kimberly certainly has some tricks up her sleeve. She couldn’t handle the pressure of being hunted, and she wasn’t willing to spend the rest of her life in prison, so she found a human trafficker to help her smuggle herself abroad.”
Before she went abroad, she sold the three luxury cars Antonio had given her. During the years with Antonio, she reaped a lot of benefits.
Kimberly originally wanted to find a comfortable place abroad to live out her remaining years, but who would have thought that the trafficker robbed her after seeing how rich she was.
Her suitcase was full of luxury goods and jewelry. Without
hesitation, he took advantage of that and she was left with nothing.
If she hadn’t claimed to have had AIDS, he would have raped her, too.
After successfully reaching the new country, she thought about going to the police, but with her illegal immigrant status, going there would only have meant walking into a trap.
Helpless, she had no choice but to accept her misfortune.
To survive, she used the little money she had left to make connections and got a fake identity. She went to a lot of hospitals, trying to get herself a job.
She was confident that, based on her reputation at Kaufman Hospital, no matter where she went, she would always find her place.
Lucia laughed as she spoke.
“That Kimberly has some nerve. She never thinks about how she got promoted to be a director back then.”
“Everyone knows that the complicated surgeries she handled were actually all surgeries you led.”
I held the phone, my thoughts drifting back to the past.
At that time, Kimberly was still an intern, but Antonio broke the protocol to hire her. He was probably afraid that if she made a mistake, it would harm the reputation of the Kaufman Hospital.
So, for every surgery she performed, Antonio insisted I be present.

I was supposed to be her assistant, but every time, Kimberly would come up with various excuses to let me be the lead surgeon. When the surgery was almost finished, she would rush forward to take over.
After a major surgery, I was always exhausted, but she would be the one rushing out to face the family of the patient, receiving their gratitude.
With her skilled words, she almost immediately convinced them that she was the one who had saved the patient.
I had brought this situation up with Antonio.
If Kimberly had real skills, I wouldn’t care who was the one facing the gratitude. But she had no skills at all.
This would not do any good. She could get the patients killed! At first, Antonio listened and said he’d think about it.
But later, when I reminded him again, he became impatient and scolded me.
“Grace, what’s the matter with you? Kimberly is indeed younger and better than you. But you don’t have to be so jealous! Why did you talk behind her back!”
After that, I kept quiet.
And Kimberly, of course, believed that the success of the surgeries was all due to her skill.
That was how the medical dispute happened. She told Antonio to keep me off on purpose, afraid that I would take her credit. She said she could handle it.

As a result, an innocent life was taken in the operating room and my baby died, too.
Lucia laughed heartily. “She sent her resume to several major hospitals. But after one surgery, she was immediately fired and no proper hospital would hire her anymore.”
“Later, she drifted from one unlicensed clinic to another. She finally got a chance to do a transplant surgery. Yet with her skill level, she couldn’t handle such a complicated surgery.”
“Of course, in the end, the surgery failed, and she was shot dead by the angry family of the patient.
