Chapter 7
Alcohol brought out the truth.
Even if he once had feelings for me, they had already gone. Kimberly had occupied his mind.
If it weren’t for Kimberly, I wouldn’t have ended up in the hospital. I could blame Kimberly for that, yet Antonio couldn’t get away, either.
The two of them were of the same kind.
I took a taxi back to the villa where Antonio and I had lived for seven years and packed up my things. Some of it them from the early years of our marriage. At that time, Antonio bought me clothes and gifts.
Some were the things I had bought to decorate our home. There wasn’t much that truly belonged to me.
I didn’t take them with me. Instead, I had the housekeeper burn them.
Those things, which had carried seven years of memories, bitter or sweet, all disappeared with a single flame. Just like my feelings for Antonio.
When he drove back, I was throwing our wedding album into the fire.
“Grace, stop!”

He didn’t even stop the car properly. Stumbling, he ran toward me like a madman.
He reached out to grab the album, but the flames had already consumed it. Antonio’s eyes reddened as he grabbed my shoulders, shaking me madly.
“That’s our wedding album! We promised to take new wedding photos every year and put them in it!”
“It’s not necessary. We haven’t added any new photos since the third year. What’s the point of keeping it?”
I said it calmly, without any emotion.
Antonio looked guilty and hurt.
“Honey, next week we’ll have our seventh anniversary. Let’s take new photos and make up for everything, okay?”
I shook my head again.
I pushed his hand away. “I’ve already applied for resignation from the hospital. Please sign it, Dr. Kaufman, as soon as possible.”
Antonio stared at me, tears streaming down his face.
“Grace, you can’t be a surgeon anymore. If you leave the hospital, how can you make a living?”
“Please, honey. I’ve already notified the police to arrest
Kimberly. There will be no one else to interfere with my life from now on, okay?”
Impossible.

He wanted to say something to hold me back, but the driver had already taken my suitcase and opened the car door for me.
“Grace, it’s time to go. Otherwise, we’ll miss the flight.”
Antonio’s looked shocked.
“You’re going abroad?! You threw away our memories, quit the hospital, and now you’re even leaving me behind?”
I didn’t answer because it didn’t matter.
He abandoned me first. We both knew that.
Besides, I hadn’t given up on being a surgeon. It was just I had to wait until I recovered so that I could take care of the patients.
That was why I planned to make full use of the time to improve my medical skills.
I had always wanted to study in that world–renowned surgical academy.
But after marrying Antonio, he said, “What’s the point of a woman being so skilled? In the end, her focus should be on the family. It’s a waste of medical resources.”
Back then, I naturally didn’t agree with his views.
But in the first two years of our marriage, he did treat me with great care and tenderness. Considering that, as well as Ruth’s last wish, I chose him over my career.
But when I convinced myself to settle into this life, I realized that Antonio’s tenderness had somehow been given to Kimberly.
Chapter 7
Now that I was single again, I would pursue my dreams.
My time abroad was both fulfilling and intense.
I spent a month adapting to life there and another six months integrating into the local medical community. At first, they looked down on me as a stranger
But after a few collaborative surgeries, everyone began to see me in a new light. During my free time, I also started exercising to regain my strength.
To return to the operating room, I needed both abundant physical strength and a calm mind. When my life was getting better and better, Lucia reached me with some gossip.
“Grace, this is so satisfying. You won’t believe how miserable Kimberly is now!”
