Chapter 6
I was severely injured and had to stay in the hospital for nearly two months before fully recovering. During these two months, Antonio put aside his work at the hospital and visited me every day.
Every time Lucia saw him, she would mock him relentlessly. Yet Antonio didn’t seem to be bothered. He just wanted to see me.
Unfortunately, I never opened the door for him.
Lucia knew how much I had once loved him, so she warned me, “If you’re with him again, I will cut ties with you!”
I nodded, “Don’t worry. As soon as I woke up, I told him I wanted a divorce.”
Lucia Hall frowned, “Look at how persistent he is. It doesn’t look like he’ll easily accept the divorce.”
I said, “No worries. If he won’t agree, I’ll meet him at the court.”
In the hospital, after I was stabbed, he stood by and did nothing to help. I was surrounded by many people the other day; I was sure that at least some of them would be willing to be witnesses.
On the day I was discharged, Lucia had surgery and couldn’t
come to see me.
A caregiver was with me. Just as I left the hospital, Antonio rushed to meet me. He grabbed my hand with urgency, his dark

eyes gleaming.
“Honey, I know you’re being discharged today, so I’ve prepared a surprise for you!”
“I’ve already removed Kimberly from her position and kicked her out of the hospital! Are you happy now?”
I remained indifferent.
“Antonio, I don’t care about what’s going on between you and her.”
“The only thing that would make me happy now is that you sign the divorce agreement.”
The light in Antonio’s eyes faded, and his entire body seemed to stagger.
He looked at me with pain in his eyes. “Honey, we’ve been together for seven years. You can’t just walk away. You can’t be that heartless.”
He was about to say something more when his phone suddenly rang. He tried to hang it up but accidentally answered the call. Shelly’s crying voice came through the phone.
“Antonio, after you fired Kimberly she started a fast. You need to come and comfort her, buy her some gifts, or she’ll hurt herself. Don’t you care about her?”
I sneered as I heard that.
As Antonio’s face turned red with embarrassment, he shouted into the phone.
“If your daughter wants to kill herself, let her do it! I won’t stop her!
“Also, I’ve learned the truth about what happened to my grandmother. It turns out that she resented my grandmother for not letting her marry me. She couldn’t become part of the family, so in a fit of rage, she pushed my grandmother’s wheelchair off a cliff and then framed my wife for it!
“She’s nothing but a murderer. Wait until she receives the court summons!”
He then hung up the phone.
Antonio turned back, trying to please me with what he had just done, but I had already gotten into a taxi and left. Through the rearview mirror, Icould see his sorrowful face. He even chased after the car in a pitiful manner.
I closed my eyes. I couldn’t help thinking back to the year we first met.
I had once been a poor student supported by the Kaufmans.
Later, I went to university, which happened to be where Antonio studied, too. He was popular on campus, but he never looked down on me because of my background. Instead, he admired and encouraged me.
I fell for him at first sight.
After graduation, I joined the hospital run by the Kaufmans.
To show my gratitude, I visited Ruth. She took a liking to me, appreciating my determination and ambition. It was there that I

first met Kimberly, the daughter of a housekeeper at the Kaufman’s house.
She appeared well–behaved and sensible, saying she wanted to be an excellent surgeon like me and work for Antonio.
Later, she got to be with Antonio as she had wished, only that it was during our marriage.
I treated Kimberly like my sister, and I thought Antonio did the
same.
It wasn’t until one time when he was drunk, holding my hand and calling me “Kimberly” that I realized I was wrong.
He said, “Kimberly, when I’m with you, I feel like I’m really in love. I regret marrying, Grace. She’s so old–fashioned and boring. If it weren’t for my grandmother, I would have married you!”
