Chapter 1
My husband Antonio Kaufman was caught in the midst of a medical dispute at his hospital. In the chaos, a patient lunged at Antonio’s first love Kimberly Vincent with a knife.
Kimberly dragged me in front of her for self–protection.
The knife plunged into my belly, killing my unborn baby.
Yet Antonio didn’t blame Kimberly.
He even believed that I plotted the dispute.
“Grace, just stop pretending. I know that you’re not injured!” he looked at me coldly and said.
Then he ignored the knife stabbed in my belly, lifted me up, and threw me to the ground.
The wound tore open, and I let out a cry of agony.
The blood quickly soaked through my clothes.
I could feel my baby dying as I murmured, “My child…”
But Antonio didn’t spare me a glance.
He gently lifted Kimberly and placed her on a hospital bed, cooing, “I’m sorry, I failed to protect you, Kimberly. Don’t worry. You’re more than safe with me now.”
Kimberly, who had a mere shallow cut on her arm, was
screaming in pain. “My wound hurts so much. Will it leave a

scar?
“What if the nerve is damaged and I can’t hold a scalpel anymore?”
Kimberly, like Antonio, was also a surgeon.
Antonio wore a look of concern. “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you. And I’ll put those who hurt you in jail!”
Derek Johnson, the deputy director, was right next to us. He glanced at me and asked nervously, “Dr. Kaufman, Mrs. Kaufman is carrying your baby. She’s badly injured now. Maybe we should attend to her first.”
Antonio glared at me with disgust and roared, “She’s probably stuffed her belly with cotton and blood bags. This medical dispute is part of her plan. Just leave her be.”
The doctors were all shocked at his words, their eyes wide in disbelief.
I guessed they couldn’t believe my husband of seven years would be so cruel.
To prove his words were true, Antonio even walked toward me and kicked me hard in the belly twice.
“I’m gonna expose your lies in front of everyone! You’re so ruthless, scheming a medical dispute just to get my attention.”
Every muscle in my body was in pain, so I had to curl up in the corner, wrapping my arms around my knees.
Why would Antonio think that I plotted it?

I instinctively looked at Kimberly on the hospital bed. She raised her chin, wearing a smug look.
Before this happened, Kimberly had provoked me.
She told me, “Grace, Antonio only loves me. Even if you die in front of him, he wouldn’t shed a tear for you.”
She must’ve framed me, and Antonio believed it.
Derek got worried as I bled more and more. “I’m gonna save you.”
I shook my head and looked at Derek, my face devoid of emotion. “It’s fine. Just attend to Kimberly.”
I knew it. Antonio wouldn’t have chosen me.
I tried to get up and leave, but a more intense pain surged through my belly. As soon as I moved, I collapsed back to my knees.
Blood dripped from under my dress. Gritting my teeth, I turned to the side and crawled step by step out of the ICU.
Antonio, however, didn’t show any pity for me. His expression grew even more furious. “Stop pretending, alright? Go change into proper clothes and then come back to apologize to Kimberly. She got hurt because of you!”
If it were the old me, I would definitely be angry and defend myself.
I hated being wronged.
Yet this time, I didn’t feel like doing it.

Antonio wouldn’t trust me anyway.
I collapsed at the door of the ward, and when I turned around, I saw Antonio and Kimberly embracing each other in a kiss.
They were celebrating a close call together.
My heart had gone numb. I took off my wedding ring and threw it into the trash.
