The coldness in his voice was like a sharp gust of winter wind, sending a shiver down Charmaine’s spine.
“If you dare bring this up again, I’ll snap your neck without hesitation.”
Charmaine’s eyes widened in shock.
Without thinking, she let out a small hiccup, covering her mouth as she began to complain, “You’re scaring me again, Satan. Besides snapping necks, what else are you capable of?”
Emyr narrowed his eyes, his gaze turning icy. “Satan?”
Charmaine, oblivious to the rising storm of anger in his expression, continued talking.
“Yeah, the evil Satan! If you hadn’t shown up just now, I would’ve already given Freya a heart attack!”
A low chuckle escaped from Emyr. “Oh?” His tone was more intrigued than amused. “And what exactly would you have said if I hadn’t arrived?”
Charmaine grinned mischievously. “Well, I would’ve told her–I’ve not only touched his abs, but I’ve kissed his lips. They’re so soft and warm, like jelly. It’s so nice to kiss him! And when I sat on his lap, it was like riding a rollercoaster, all bumpy and fun. I want to do it again–mmmph!”
Emyr’s eyes darkened as his thoughts turned to one thing-
Shut her up, now.
In one swift motion, Emyr gripped the back of Charmaine’s head and pulled her into a forceful kiss. Charmaine, used to her quick retorts, found herself completely overwhelmed by his sudden dominance.
Her body softened, going limp as she collapsed into his chest, the taste of alcohol still lingering on his lips.
Emyr exhaled sharply. “Still talking?”
Charmaine’s lips were numb, her eyes unfocused as she muttered, “I’ll stop talking … I’ll stop…‘

With a gentle press of his palm over her eyes, he hid the slight flush creeping up behind his ears.
“Alright, you’re drunk. Quiet now and go to sleep,” he murmured.
Already dizzy, Charmaine closed her eyes and leaned into him, quickly falling into a peaceful slumber.
The next morning, Charmaine woke with a pounding headache.
“Ugh, that drink really hit me hard.”
She had thought it was just a sweet fruit wine–but now, she regretted that big gulp.
“What’s going on? Why do my lips hurt, too?”
Standing in front of the mirror, Charmaine noticed a tear on her lips.

nothing that made sense.
After freshening up, she made her way to the dining room.
Emyr sat at the table, sipping coffee, his eyes glancing over at her with an unreadable expression.
The butler, Alfred, greeted Charmaine with a small, knowing smile.
Why’s he looking at me like that?
Charmaine shivered instinctively. “Alfred, how did I get back last night?”

At the mention of it, Alfred’s smile grew. “Ms. Nelson, you were pretty drunk last night. Mr. Emyr carried you back.”
Charmaine froze. “He carried me?”
“Yes, indeed,” Alfred grinned. “You were completely out of it, couldn’t wake up. Tad tried to carry you, but Mr. Emyr stopped him. He personally brought you to your room. Don’t you remember?”
Charmaine shook her head vigorously.
She couldn’t remember a thing.
But Alfred’s story seemed … too ridiculous.
Could that Satan really act so kindly toward me?
Shaking her head, Charmaine moved toward Emyr, intending to ask him about what happened last night.
But as she neared, her eyes landed on the bite mark on his neck, and a chill ran down her spine.
The injury on his neck and my broken lip…
It had to be my doing.
Emyr set his coffee cup down, his voice calm but low, “Aren’t you coming over?”
“Mr. Emyr …” Charmaine lowered her head, embarrassed. “I’m sorry.”
Her speed in apologizing had only increased lately.
Emyr let out a sharp, cold snort. “Oh? And what exactly are you apologizing for?”
Charmaine wasn’t about to admit to biting him–not for anything.
She blinked rapidly, searching for an excuse. “I didn’t manage to get you home safely last night, and ended up passing out myself. That’s where things went wrong, I guess.”
“You’re really good at avoiding the real issue.”
Charmaine feigned innocence. “Did I make any other mistakes? I’m sure you won’t hold it against me, the generous man you are.”
Emyr didn’t respond, but his gaze lingered on her lips.

There, where he had marked her.
It was like a beast claiming what was his, and strangely, that thought pleased him.
“Fine,” he said after a long silence. “But if there’s a next time…”
