Emyr can walk around with his smug attitude for now, but once we get home, Charmaine will definitely find a way to put him in his place!
The rest of the group fell silent, quickly diverting their attention to their food and drinks, pretending to drop the topic,
Freya, still upset and desperate for more information, bit her lip, holding back her questions and trying not to anger Emyr.
Emyr, meanwhile, had already shifted his focus elsewhere.
Looking down, he noticed a thick, delicate piece of fish in his bowl.
Charmaine, noticing his gaze, quickly plastered a sweet smile on her face and asked in a soft voice, “Mr. Emyr, would you like some more?”
Seeing her expressionless face, something in Emyr’s chest tightened, causing him to feel unexpectedly
uneasy.
He frowned slightly, his appetite suddenly gone. “I’m full.”
Charmaine exhaled in relief. “Alright, since you’re full, it’s my turn to eat …
She had been serving him non–stop during the meal, barely touching her own food.
Emyr’s expression darkened even more. “Keon, I’m heading out. We’ll catch up another time.
Charmaine, still holding her utensils and a piece of food, blinked in surprise. “What?”
He’s really leaving already?
He finished eating and doesn’t even let me eat? Does he not care about me at all?
She grumbled, shoving another bite into her mouth.
Freya, watching her greedily devour her food, was visibly repulsed. She couldn’t stand how Charmaine had so little concern for her image.
Keon, his eyes glinting with amusement, watched Charmaine with a smile as she stuffed food into her mouth. “Alright, I’ll check on your recovery in a few days.”
“Sure. Thanks.”
Emyr raised his hand, grabbing Charmaine by the back of the neck while she leaned over her bowl. He raised an eyebrow. “Still eating?”
Caught off guard and helpless, Charmaine reluctantly set down her utensils. Before leaving, she grabbed the bottle of aged wine and took a long gulp. Only then did she obediently follow Emyr out.
This restaurant is amazing. Next time, I’ll make sure to eat my fill before Emyr can spoil it all!

Leah’s phone buzzed on the table beside her. She unlocked the screen, unable to suppress a reaction. Her spoon clinked against her bowl, drawing attention.
Valda, who took family rules seriously, frowned. “Leah, no phones at the table.”
Leah quickly locked her phone. “Sorry, Grandma.”
She hesitated for a moment before adding, “Mr. Keon hosted a welcome dinner today, and Veronica was there. She sent me a message.”
Jonah responded casually, “Yeah, Keon invited me and Milo, but I didn’t have time to go.”
Milo scoffed. “I’m not wasting time with those people. It’d be boring anyway.”
“Veronica?” Olympia asked, her interest piqued. Since the banquet incident, she had been especially attentive to her daughter’s close friends. “Didn’t you say she’s from the James family’s side branch? Is she close with Keon?”
“I think so,” Leah replied, not going into detail. “Mr. Emyr was there too, and Charmaine went… as Mr. Emyr’s maid.”
The sound of Willard slamming his spoon on the marble table interrupted the conversation.
“D*mn it, why bring her up?!”
The table fell silent.
Leah gasped, her hand clutching her chest in shock.
She hesitantly spoke, “Dad, I know I shouldn’t bring up Charmaine, but … she’s having a really tough time out there. Do you think there’s any chance we could bring her back?”
Before Willard could answer, Valda’s voice cut through sharply, filled with fury.
“Bring her back? Ha! When she left, she was so arrogant, thinking she could walk all over us. Now that she’s hit rock bottom, that’s exactly what she deserves! She went to work like a servant for the Crosses–let her live with that fate. Why would we let her come back to this house?”
Leah bit her lip, gently. “Maybe she regrets her mistakes now…
”
“If she truly regretted it, she would’ve come crawling back, begging for forgiveness, not trying to tear you down and fight with all of us!” Valda snapped.
“Mom, please don’t be upset. Leah’s just soft–hearted,” Olympia quickly interjected, trying to calm the older
woman.
Leah rose and gently patted Valda’s back, trying to comfort her.
Valda pulled Leah’s hand toward her and spoke in a deep, knowing tone, “Leah, we all know how kind- hearted you are, but maybe you feel like you’ve taken Charmaine’s place, which is why you think she’s ended up like this. But ask yourself–Didn’t she bring this on herself?
“Even though you were switched at birth, we still took her in from South Aspus and treated her well. But she’s so proud, always acting like we owed her something. That’s why she made all those reckless decisions,
