Chapter 90 An Unusual Request
“It’s not like being good at foreign languages is something special,” Veronica said sarcastically.
A sudden realization hit her.
South Aspus, two years, the necklace…
She grabbed Leah’s wrist with such force it almost hurt.
“Ow! Veronica, you’re hurting me!” Leah gasped.

“You’re coming with me!” Veronica growled, pulling Leah to a quiet corner of the terrace outside. Her face was hard with anger. “Mr. Emyr is looking for Charmaine, isn’t he?”
Leah paused, caught off guard, before a smile tugged at her lips. “Didn’t think you’d figure it out so quickly.”
So she’s admitted it!
Veronica’s excitement was barely contained as she quickly covered her mouth to stop herself from shouting.
But in the next breath, she grabbed Leah by the throat, panic written across her face.
“Leah, are you crazy? Charmaine is always around Mr. Emyr, and you want me to pretend I’m the owner of the necklace? Are you trying to get me killed?”
The fear, the panic, the chilling aura surrounding the man–it all hit Veronica like a wave. She was no match for him!
“Let go!” Leah choked out, struggling to free herself.
“Are you trying to strangle me, Veronica?!”
“I’m the one who’ll get killed if this goes wrong, not you! What were you thinking?” Veronica snapped.
Leah, undeterred, sneered. “What’s the big deal? Charmaine’s standing right under Mr. Emyr’s nose, and he’s still looking for the necklace’s owner. Doesn’t that tell you something?
“Mr. Emyr doesn’t even know the person he’s searching for is Charmaine. And Charmaine has no clue he’s after her either.”
Veronica stared at her, confused. “How could that be? Aren’t they …

Leah scoffed, rolling her eyes. “Charmaine’s just a maid at the Crosses. How much could she possibly interact with Mr. Emyr? If she knew he was looking for her, do you think she’d miss out on that kind of opportunity to change her life?”
Her gaze sharpened as she locked eyes with Veronica. “Just like you. One word from Mr. Emyr, and your parents would treat you like the family’s lucky charm, even if you were just a maid. You’d meet the family heir—all because of Mr. Emyr’s connections … Are you willing to be squashed by the Crosses‘ maid?”
Veronica seethed, feeling the sting of Leah’s words. She clenched her fists, her chest tight with irritation.
“So you’re saying they don’t know about each other?” Veronica asked, still uncertain.

Chapter 90 An Unusual Request
Charmaine came back, the necklace has been with me. No one will notice.”
Veronica breathed a sigh of relief, reassured for the moment.

“But,” Leah continued, casting her a sideways glance, “we need to make sure we’re ready, just in case.
“We’re in this together, Veronica. You know what’s most important right now, right?”
Veronica’s mind flashed back to her humiliating moment in class, where she had been compared to Charmaine. A nasty smile curled on her lips.
“Mr. Emyr can only have me. Charmaine has to disappear!”
As long as Charmaine was out of the picture, no one would ever know the true owner of the necklace.
Charmaine didn’t have to worry about preparing dinner for Emyr, so she decided to take care of some other things when she got home. She started going through the few belongings she had brought back from the Nelsons.
There hadn’t been much back then, but she hadn’t checked everything thoroughly when she left.
Now, as she sorted through the items, she realized she was missing quite a few small things.
Most of them had been items she had carried with her when she returned from South Aspus. The missing things were the ones that had been the least noticeable, the things she wouldn’t have paid much attention
- to.
But what really shocked Charmaine was that the shell necklace was also gone!
Her face darkened. D*mn it, Leah took so much without my noticing!
Why didn’t I realize this sooner?
Frustrated, Charmaine was about to curse when she heard a knock on the door. “Ms. Nelson, do you have a moment?”
Taking a deep breath, Charmaine opened the door to find a young maid standing there, looking down, too shy to meet her eyes. “What is it?” Charmaine asked, frowning.
The maid hesitated, nervously fidgeting before speaking. “Ms. Nelson, I have an unusual request…”
The maid finally managed to say, “A distant relative of mine has been suffering from a strange illness. He has red spots on his legs–not painful or itchy—but his hands and feet go numb in the mornings, and it takes him a while to recover. He’s seen many doctors and tried many treatments, but nothing’s worked. He just returned from Seaville after receiving some treatment. I was wondering if you could take a look at him.”
