“Boss, the expert said that if you want to stop losing your luck, you need to avoid people with bad intentions. Keep your belongings safe and stay alert”

“Got it.” Charmaine responded, saving Mia’s message and finishing her meal before heading to the library for a short nap. By 2:00 PM, she was back in class.
As she entered the room, she noticed a crowd gathered around Leah and Veronica, complimenting them enthusiastically.
Charmaine’s brow twitched in irritation.
“Veronica, you’re so thoughtful! You bought us each a full set of those seasonal limited–edition lipsticks from Chanel.” That’s way too much! someone said.
“It’s nothing really, just a small gift for classmates. I’m glad you like it,” Veronica replied, modestly brushing off the praise.
It was the first time Charmaine had seen Veronica take center stage like this. Back when the three of them hung out, Veronica was barely noticed.
But after the birthday banquet, it was obvious these two had grown very close.
It made sense–they both decided at the same time to ditch Celeste, who had always been clueless. People who are alike tend to stick together.
Charmaine took her usual seat in the front row. Not long after, she overheard Veronica picking up a call, her
voice laced with excitement.
“Really? Mr. Keon wants me to go to his dinner tonight?” Veronica said. “Don’t worry, Mom, I’ll be fine. I won’t mess it up.”
Veronica ended the call, her smile spreading
across her face in a way she couldn’t hide.
A girl sitting behind them leaned forward, curious. “Veronica, who’s Mr. Keon?”
Veronica puffed up, speaking with an air of superiority, “Mr. Keon just returned from abroad. He’s hosting a welcome dinner tonight and specifically invited me to join him.”
Leah blinked in recognition. “Are you talking about Keon James? He’s an alum of my brother, Zayn’s, school. They both won the Ivy League Outstanding Student Award. A while ago, Zayn mentioned going to Yasaria with Mr. Keon. Is he back already?”
“Yeah, he said he just got off the plane last night.”
Leah’s face brightened with excitement. “I’ll ask Zayn if he’s back too!”
The girls around them listened in, clearly envious. “Wow, the top five families are all so impressive …
“Wait, this is the first time I’ve heard about Veronica’s family. You really are from the James family, one of the five big families?”

“Yeah, that’s about right. Mr. Keon focuses on his studies and doesn’t get involved much with family matters. I haven’t seen him in a while,” Veronica answered, trying to cover up.
Leah, just finishing up a text, looked disappointed and let her shoulders slump. “Turns out Mr. Keon is back here alone. Zayn won’t be back for a while.”
“Oh, I see. Leah, do you want to come along tonight?” Veronica asked.
Leah gave her a knowing look, silently mocking how quickly Veronica had latched onto the opportunity to associate with someone she thought would help her rise.
“No, I’m going home. My mom made me some nourishing soup, and I can’t let it go to waste.”
As she spoke, Leah glanced toward Charmaine, who was still absorbed in her phone, not paying attention to the conversation. Leah’s frustration grew.
Charmaine received a text from Emyr, saying, “No need to cook dinner tonight.”
Charmaine raised an eyebrow. It seems like he’s going to Mr. Keon’s dinner tonight.
Among the five families, the young men from the other four families, including Emyr, always stuck together, leaving the Nelsons out.
This had only widened the gap between the Nelsons and the other families over the years.
In Charmaine’s past life, however, she had helped the Nelsons catch up with the others.
