Chapter 75 Broken Promises
In the industry and throughout Eragos, Alessa was a heroine admired by many.
Charmaine, holding the invitation card Emyr had given her, confidently made her way into the venue.
The hall was extravagant and meticulously detailed. It was clear that the Quinns placed immense importance on Alessa’s celebration.
Through the crowd, Charmaine caught sight of Alessa surrounded by guests.
Among them, she noticed the familiar faces of Willard and Olympia.
nergy
Alessa, with her trendy blond hair, exuded and charm.
Her sharp, bright demeanor and excellent posture belied her 70 years of age. No one would question it if someone said she was Olympia’s sister.
Not wanting to attract attention, Charmaine quietly found a corner and waited for the inevitable drama.
But a voice called out, interrupting her thoughts.
“Charmaine.”
As the host, Daniel was sharply dressed in a suit, looking every bit the gentleman. His face lit up with a faint smile as he saw her.
“Leah, I’m glad you came.”
Charmaine’s tone was indifferent. “You don’t need to be. I didn’t come here for you.”
Daniel remained unfazed by her coldness. “Yes, you came out of respect for Grandma, but that still makes me happy.”
Charmaine didn’t bother to reply.
Though she was technically here because of Emyr, she did hold some respect for Alessa.
Daniel stepped closer, his gaze fixed intently on Charmaine.
“Charmaine, can we sit down and talk sometime? Look, I’m with Leah now because of responsibility, but you know… two years ago, I wanted to tell you how I felt. The person I truly care about is—”
“There’s nothing for us to talk about. I was a different person two years ago. I’m not that Charmaine anymore.”
Charmaine met his eyes emotionlessly.
“Two years ago, you promised to fly to South Aspus with me. But when I waited at the airport and you didn’t show up, that was the end of anything between us.”
Daniel froze, shaken by her words and the look in her eyes.
His fists clenched tightly and his veins bulged from the force. “I’m sorry. If I hadn’t broken that promise, at least when you were at your lowest, I could’ve been there for you-”

Charmaine interrupted, her tone cutting. “Stop it, one more person like you would’ve just been a burden. And for the record, I’m not telling you this to make you feel guilty. I’m drawing a line, Daniel. Do you
understand?”
Her words were honest and resolute.
Whether Daniel had joined her on that flight or not, she no longer cared.
Having lived through it all, she knew exactly what she wanted and understood that she could only truly rely on herself. She wouldn’t misplace her hopes in others anymore.
Daniel felt an ache in his chest at her unwavering resolve.
Since he was unable to refute her, he wanted to avoid the topic altogether.
“Let’s not talk about this now,” he said hurriedly. “Come on, let me take you to see Grandma. She’ll be thrilled to see you.”
In his nervousness, Daniel instinctively reached out, resting a hand on her shoulder as he once did so easily in the past.
Charmaine stepped back, dodging his hand just as a flustered figure barreled into her, pushing her aside.
“Daniel!”
Leah latched onto Daniel’s arm, her posture screaming possessiveness as she glared defensively at Charmaine. “What were you two talking about that required being so close?”
Daniel stared blankly at Charmaine for a moment, now standing a deliberate distance away.
His gaze darkened as he replied, “I was just about to take Charmaine to see Grandma.”
Leah’s expression twisted briefly, but she masked her discomfort with an understanding smile. “Mrs. Alessa is busy entertaining the elders right now. Let’s wait until she’s free before we go, okay, Daniel?”
Daniel nodded. “Alright.”
“Right, I just saw your father looking for you. Maybe you should go check in with him?”
“Leah, take care of Charmaine. I’ll be back soon,” Daniel instructed before leaving.
“Of course!” Leah replied cheerfully.
As soon as Daniel was out of sight, Celeste and Veronica closed in with mocking expressions.
“Charmaine,” Celeste sneered, “Daniel is Leah’s boyfriend. Don’t tell me you’ve got your sights set on him.”
Veronica chimed in with a snide laugh. “Yeah, go look in the mirror, Charmaine. Daniel isn’t for someone lowly like you.”
Charmaine nodded in agreement. “You’re absolutely right. Only someone as lowly as Leah could match
him.”
