“And besides, you already have a girlfriend.”
“It’s not what you think with her. It’s because–”

“It doesn’t matter why. The Nelsons ran into financial trouble, and it was the Quinns who bailed them out- at your request. And today, you personally brought Leah to school.”
In her previous life, Daniel had also been Leah’s dazzling fiancé, someone she flaunted at every turn.
Charmaine spoke slowly, enunciating each word as if etching them into stone. She raised her other hand and pried Daniel’s fingers off her one by one.
“Maybe we could’ve been friends someday, but not right now.”
It didn’t matter if he had been aware of Leah’s dirty schemes in their past lives. Just the fact that he was entangled with Leah already made him filthy.
With a shove, Charmaine pushed Daniel away. Ignoring his stunned expression, she opened the door and walked out of the classroom.
She had barely climbed half a flight of stairs when she heard footsteps catching up behind her.
She snapped in annoyance, “Are you going to keep following me—”
When she turned around, she froze momentarily before frowning deeply. “Why are you following me?”
Milo stood there with a solemn expression. “I have somethi

to say to you.”
Charmaine continued up the stairs, but Milo took a long stride, covering three steps at once, and blocked her path.
“I … I’m here to apologize.”
The words came out in such a low voice that it was hard to tell if it was shame or awkwardness that made Milo practically mumble them.
Just as Charmaine was about to brush past him, she heard his words and felt as though she had just heard something straight out of a fantasy.
With a bewildered expression, she reached out and touched Milo’s forehead.
Milo looked puzzled. “What are you doing?”
Charmaine contemplated for a moment before asking with genuine confusion, “Did Jonah really swap your brain out for someone else’s?”
“Charmaine, I’m being serious today.”
Milo took a deep breath. “This apology isn’t just for me. It’s also for Leah. She plagiarized your design drafts and owes you a proper apology. I’m here to make up for it.”

It was likely also the last time.
Charmaine’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “Setting everything else aside, you’re quite a good brother?
Milo was stunned.
For some reason, her words stung, and he found them oddly cutting
After all, he was also Charmaine’s brother by blood.
“…”
“Milo? What are you two doing here?”
A voice came from below the stairs. Leah was clinging to Daniel who had a blank expression. A flash of hatred flickered in her eyes when she saw the interaction between Charmaine and Milo.
Why is Charmaine everywhere? She’s such an eyesore!
Milo was equally surprised at Leah’s appearance. “Leah, didn’t Mom tell you to stay home and rest for a few days?”
Leah’s expression faltered, and she instinctively shrank closer to Daniel.
Daniel spoke up, “I’m the one who brought Leah to school.”
Milo descended the stairs to face Daniel. The two men, both tall and imposing, seemed equally matched in stature and presence.
“You know how bad things got yesterday. What if someone tries to target Leah again today? Do you even realize the risk you’re putting her in?”
Daniel remained unfazed. “I’ll protect Leah. Since I brought her here, I’ll make sure she gets home safely, without so much as a scratch.”
“Aren’t you being too confident? What are you going to do if you’re outnumbered?”
A crowd began to gather, their curiosity piqued by the two impressive men squaring off with palpable tension. Leah, secretly reveling in the attention, felt her vanity swell to new heights.
She glanced up at the staircase, hoping to flaunt her victory at Charmaine, only to realize Charmaine had disappeared.
Her smug satisfaction deflated instantly. She stepped between the two men. “Milo, Daniel, I know you both mean well, but I’m an adult now. I can make my own decisions.”
Leah turned to Milo. “Why don’t you head back? With Daniel here, I’ll be fine.”
Milo was visibly displeased, but Leah clung tightly to Daniel’s arm, making it clear she wasn’t going to let go.
Glancing back at the staircase and noticing Charmaine was nowhere in sight, Milo felt a flicker of regret.
“Fine. Do whatever you want.”
He stormed off in frustration.

Leah tightened her grip on Daniel’s arm and spoke coquettishly, “Daniel, I’m so sorry for dragging you into this.”
