Milo took a deep breath and stared at Leah firmly. “Didn’t you tell me yourself that you were going to apologize to Charmaine?”
“Yes, I said I’d apologize,” Leah replied, her expression twisted with discomfort. “But I never said I’d apologize in front of the whole class! It was right after class, and everyone in the entire grade was there, watching…”
Her voice began to tremble as tears welled up in her eyes. “I begged Chara. I begged her to find another place to talk, but she refused. She even said something about how my parents must not have raised me properly… She used Mom and Dad to threaten me! What was I supposed to do?”
She tilted her head back and a single tear rolled down her cheek pitifully.
“Milo, do you think it’s my fault too? It’s Chara who won’t let me go!”
Milo’s fists clenched tightly and took a deep breath. “Leah, it doesn’t matter where or when–you can always apologize. We, the Nelsons, have nothing to hide or fear. If she asked for an apology, then give her one. But…”
He wanted to ask, “Why do you have to cry?”
Before he could speak, Leah had already buried her face in her knees, sobbing loudly.
“You’re blaming me! You’re not my brother anymore! You’re siding with Chara–everyone’s siding with her! Fine, it’s all my fault, okay? I’m the one who causes trouble for everyone. I’m just a curse, a walking disaster!”
Milo’s face grew taut, his expression icy.
Unlike before, he didn’t try to comfort her. Instead, he turned his face away in silence.
He wanted to instinctively support Leah, as he always had, but this time, he couldn’t.
For the first time, he questioned whether they’d gone too far with Charmaine. Had they hurt her too much over the years?
As
a
man and her brother, Milo had always felt it was Charmaine’s responsibility to step aside for Leah. It didn’t seem like a big deal at the time.
However, the plagiarism incident had shaken him.
Now, he couldn’t help but feel that everything Leah was going through was a result of her own actions.
Leah continued her theatrical sobbing, waiting for Milo to apologize and console her like he always did— with gentle words and endless patience.
But this time, she felt a pang of unease when she peeked through her fingers and saw Milo sitting with his back to her.
Her heart sank like ice spreading through her veins.
Leah’s body trembled involuntarily.
Charmaine.

Chapter 64 Milo’s Heart Wavered
It’s all because of Charmaine.
She had embarrassed me, made me a laughingstock, and now even stolen Milo’s care and affection!
Leah bit her lip, and a dark, hateful glint flickered in her tearful gaze.

Meanwhile, Charmaine finished helping Emyr with dinner and his evening routine before returning to her small room. She powered up her tablet and saw that the Nelsons had already cleaned up most of the public backlash.
Charmaine smirked silently, unsurprised.
An idea crossed her mind and she unblocked a number from her blacklist.
The moment she did, dozens of missed calls and messages flooded her screen.
Her lips curled into a mocking smile.
She knew Bennett was a fool, but he was more foolish than she had expected.
Despite being ignored, he’d kept calling and texting relentlessly. His persistence was almost laughable.
He must’ve been living off sheer luck to have made any kind of name for himself in Eragos.
Just as she was musing, her phone buzzed with another call from Bennett.
Stubborn, isn’t he?
Charmaine answered the call and there was a brief pause on the other end before Bennett’s hesitant and surprised voice came through.
“Charmaine?”
“Speaking,” she replied coolly.
Then, she pulled the phone away from her ear.
As expected, the next moment, Bennett’s furious shouting erupted from the speaker.
Charmaine immediately hung up.
A second later, she called him back.
Before he could launch into another tirade, she cut him off. “If you start yelling again, I’ll hang up.”
This d*mn girl!
Bennett let out a frustrated huff, his tone now tinged with smugness. He thought that Charmaine must have finally caved.
Having been cast out by the Nelsons, she probably had nowhere else to go and was running low on money.
She had been forced to pick up his calls.

“Not doing so well without the Nelsons‘ support, huh, Charmaine? Must be tough being all alone now. We might’ve considered taking you back, but after you humiliated Leah at school, don’t think for a second we’ll let this slide!”
