Mia Field, like Rex, was part of Charmaine’s small circle of friends. She was Basil’s biological daughter, but instead of pursuing medicine, she was completely engrossed in tarot cards. Her online fortune–telling had amassed her millions of followers on a social media platform.
“That’s right, Boss. I just got here today. My dad was trying to set me up on another blind date, so I ran over to Rex’s place to hide,” Mia said with a cheeky grin.
Then, her tone turned serious. “Boss, have you ever heard of borrowing one’s fortune?”
Before Charmaine could respond, Rex cut in with a scoff, “We’re in the science field, and you expect us to believe in this supernatural mumbo jumbo?”
Mia’s voice grew eerie. “You don’t have to believe it, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t real.”
In the past, Charmaine might have dismissed such notions with a laugh.
But now, things were different–she had been reborn.
Charmaine frowned slightly. “I’ve seen something about it online. It’s about transferring someone’s good fortune to yourself, right?”
“Exactly! That button isn’t anything valuable. Leah has no reason to wear it, especially since it belonged to someone she doesn’t like, unless…”

“That button has a use for her,” Charmaine concluded calmly.
“Bingo!”
Rex muttered, “No way, this is way too far–fetched.”
Mia put her hands on her hips, feigning arrogance. “Then tell me, Rex, why is Leah wearing the Boss’s button? Don’t tell me you’re going to claim she secretly has a crush on her?”
Without hesitation, Rex replied, “That’s even more far–fetched!”
Charmaine massaged her temples. “Speculations can be unconventional, but not absurd.”
After a pause, she said, “Alright, I’ll figure this out. Mia, stay at Rex’s place for now. Let’s meet up when I have some time.”
Rex quickly interjected, “Boss, I’ve already got a team of trolls set up for you. They’ll attack Leah online- guaranteed to ruin her reputation!”
Mia let out a whistle. “Boss is always decisive. Leah thinks she can hide behind the internet, pretending to be some saint to gain sympathy? Time to show everyone just how shameless she is!”
“Thanks,” Charmaine said, the corners of her lips curling into a sly smile.
At that moment, she uploaded a video her classmates had recorded onto Nelson Group’s official account, pushing Leah’s public apology video down to second place on the page.
She locked the settings so no one could delete or unpin the post.

This move was impulsive but undeniably delightful. For someone like Leah, who carried herself like an untouchable princess, this public humiliation was exhilarating.
The Nelsons wanted to protect her reputation and paint her in an innocent light. So, Charmaine would help them–on her terms.
Charmaine sorted out her thoughts after hanging up the call.
In her past life, the turning point of her misfortune had been her kidney transplant. From then on, everything went downhill for her, while Leah’s life seemed to bloom effortlessly. Her academics, career, and even her perfect fiancé all fell perfectly into place.
However, Leah had been faking her illness. If she wasn’t really sick, why did she need Charmaine’s kidney? If they wanted her dead, there were other ways to achieve that.
Unless …
“Ms. Nelson, are you still awake?”
A gentle knock came from the door..
Charmaine opened it to find Alfred standing there with his usual kind smile. “Ms. Nelson, the specialist overseeing Mr. Emyr’s condition has arrived. They’re currently examining him. Would you like to come take a look?”
Charmaine nodded. “Alright, I’ll be right there.”
It seemed that Satan had too much time on his hands. He had chosen the crocodile pond as the location for his check–up.
When Charmaine arrived, she saw Emyr wearing black gloves, and casually feeding fish snacks to Little Fish.
She’d always assumed that Little Fish was a cold–blooded beast incapable of forming bonds. Yet, in Emyr’s presence, the large reptile acted like a docile lamb.
It obediently opened its mouth wide, waiting for food, exuding an almost comical level of obedience.
Behind his wheelchair stood a nervous female doctor in a white coat, clearly wary of the crocodile.
Charmaine scrutinized the doctor with a smirk.
Ten–centimeter stiletto heels, waist–length cascading curls, and a tight–fitting dress peeking out from beneath her lab coat. Her makeup was more glamorous than a celebrity’s.
No wonder Emyr’s legs hadn’t improved all this time.
Is this a medical consultation or an attempt at seduction?
Charmaine approached quietly, just in time to catch the doctor’s syrupy voice. “Emyr, you really should take the medication I prescribed for your neuritis. It’ll help with your legs…
Charmaine felt a wave of goosebumps.
Unable to resist, she stepped forward decisively–only to accidentally step on the tip of the Little Fish’s tail.
