Back to My Worst Birthday and Starting Anew
Chapter 59 Provocation
Leah clenched her jaw and forced a smile. “What’s going on, Charmaine?”
The cold look in Charmaine’s eyes sent a chill down Leah’s spine.
Charmaine’s smile was anything but warm.

“You’ve forgotten something, haven’t you? You were supposed to apologize. What happened? Did you forget what you said online?”
Leah’s heart clenched.
This girl was unbearable!
Celeste couldn’t hold back her fury..
“Are you insane, Charmaine? Leah already apologized. What more do
Charmaine tilted her head, pretending to think for a moment.
“She apologized? When exactly?”
“You saw the video! It’s online!” Celeste snapped back.
“Did
you want?”
your parents never teach you how to apologize properly?” Celeste added, pressing on the heat.
She glanced between Celeste and Leah, her grin widening. “Funny. Looks like your parents never taught you either.”
Leah’s blood ran cold. Charmaine had crossed the line, bringing her family into it.
She’s insulting her own parents?
Trying to keep her composure, Leah clenched her fists, her face tightening with anger.
She lowered her voice, trying to keep it calm and out of the crowd’s earshot. “Charmaine, can we go somewhere else to talk?”
Charmaine didn’t budge. “This place is just fine.”
Leah staggered back, nearly losing her balance as the tension built inside her.
Veronica rushed to steady her. “Leah, are you alright?”
Celeste, now seething, raised her hand, ready to strike. “Don’t push it, Charmaine!”
In a swift move, Charmaine grabbed Celeste’s wrist, twisted it, and flung her toward Leah.
A loud smack echoed across the air.
“Ah!” someone cried out in pain.
The slap, meant for Charmaine, landed squarely on Leah’s cheek.

The students who had been watching couldn’t keep quiet anymore. “Really? Over an apology? Is it really necessary to go this far?”
“Exactly. Leah promised to apologize to Charmaine, but it was nothing more than lip service.”
“That just makes her a liar. She acts like she cares about family, but at the end of the day, she’s still bullying Charmaine, simply because Charmaine has no power or status.”
“Disgusting.”
Leah covered her face, spotting a phone in someone’s hand nearby. She had no choice but to give in.
She squeezed her eyes shut, feeling the weight of the humiliation. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have taken your design. It’s all my fault. I apologize.”
Without waiting for Charmaine’s response, Leah lowered her head, hiding her face as tears began to fall, her shoulders trembling with every sob.
She looked completely defeated.
“Are you happy now? She said she’s sorry now.”
Celeste shot Charmaine a furious glare and quickly pulled Leah away. “Let’s go, Leah.”
As they turned to leave, something in Charmaine’s gaze caught Leah off guard.
“Wait. Leah turned the button you threw away into a bracelet?”
Charmaine locked the door of the villa and began typing on her laptop. She called Rex and briefed him on the incident.
“Yes.”
After a moment of thought, she added, “That shirt I wore the other day at the hospital–Sophie was the one who yanked the button off.”
Rex’s voice became more intense. “Sophie? That hag bullied you?”
Charmaine sighed and quickly explained the whole situation.
On the other end, Rex kept muttering curses under his breath.
She listened, feeling a warmth spread through her despite her frustration.
It was strange. Her foster parents, her biological parents, and even her brothers had treated her like dirt, but the people she’d met on the island–her teachers, her friends, and Rex–were the ones who genuinely cared
for her.
And then there was… She stopped her mind from wandering any further.
In her past life, she had been blind to everything, stuck in the trap of family obligations. Now, she was free.
Who said that only parents and siblings were family?

As Charmaine wondered this, a soft, clear voice came through the phone. “You should be on guard, Boss.”
“Wait, Mia? You’re in Eragos?”
