Sophie immediately moved to her side, her concern evident as she took Leah’s arm. She whispered, keeping their conversation private. “How did it go?”
Leah gave a small nod.
Sophie exhaled in relief, but Leah’s focus had already shifted toward Olympia and the others. She walked toward them without hesitation.
Sophie looked down at her empty hand and recalled her earlier encounter with Charmaine. The sting of Charmaine’s harsh words still lingered in her mind.A knot twisted in her stomach.
Her own daughter had called Olympia ‘Mom.‘ She seemed to be closer to Olympia than to her own flesh and blood. Of course, it hurt.
But then again, they were the Nelsons.
Olympia’s voice broke through her thoughts. “Leah, what’s wrong? Why do you look so pale? Are you feeling sick?”
Leah quickly reassured her, “I’m fine, Mom. It’s just … every time I have an exam, I start thinking about not having a kidney for the surgery. It scares me a little.”
Olympia’s response was immediate, a soft but firm reprimand. “Don’t say that. Your brother will have good news soon. Stop worrying.”
Leah shook her head, a small smile forming on her lips.
“Actually, I agreed to the tests for more than just Zayn’s chance to work with Mr. Robin. I wanted to spare my brother from worrying. He’s already so busy with the company. And … if I don’t need a kidney, it’ll be easier for Charmaine too. The family won’t have to stress over my illness anymore. If I can handle this, everything will be fine, won’t it?”
Olympia’s heart clenched.
She was touched by Leah’s words, but guilt quickly followed.
Such a sweet, selfless girl …
Leah always put the family first, never considering how much pain she was in.
Milo, who had remained quiet until then, furrowed his brow.
Something about Leah mentioning Charmaine stirred unease in him.
He couldn’t place it, but something felt off.
Leah spoke again, her voice soft and steady. “The family has given me everything–love, a good life. Now, it’s my turn to give back. Even if I’m not always with you guys after this, I won’t regret what I did.”
Olympia, unable to stop herself, pulled Leah into a tight embrace. “Silly girl, you’ll always be my precious daughter. You’re the heart of this family. That’ll never change.”

Chapter 45 Checkup
As Charmaine approached, she saw this moment.
Her face remained neutral, but her eyes, fixed on Leah, held an icy gleam.

Just as she was about to step forward, Lorenzo appeared. He held the examination report with at professional air and began speaking. “Ms. Nelson’s condition has worsened slightly. The inflammation in her kidneys has increased, and her blood tests show she’s weaker than before. Her white blood cell count is low. She’ll need to manage her stress and make sure she gets proper rest.”
Charmaine’s lips curled into a cold, almost mocking smile.
Inflammation in the kidneys?
Low white blood cells?
What utter nonsense!
Leah was fine. Her kidneys were perfectly healthy, even better than most people’s. She didn’t need
treatment.
Charmaine had suspected as much for a while, but seeing Leah’s test results in person made it undeniable. Everything she had been told, everything she had believed, was a lie.
The supposed sisterly bond, the kidney transplant, the liver donation, the car accident–they were all part of Leah’s calculated scheme.
No, it wasn’t just Leah–others were involved too.
They had orchestrated a long and devious plot, not just to steal her kidney, but to take her life.
A wave of hatred surged through Charmaine, stronger than anything she’d felt in a long time. She despised Leah. She felt equal disgust for the entire Nelson family.
But now, more than ever, she wanted to tear them all down. She wanted to destroy Leah–the deceitful, self- serving monster who had stolen everything from her. She wanted to bring down every last one of those foolish relatives who had trusted Leah and aided in this cruel conspiracy.
Unbeknownst to her, Charmaine’s fist tightened, and the fury in her chest intensified. The anger threatened to drown the calm she had desperately clung to.
At that moment, her phone buzzed, snapping her out of her dark thoughts.
It was a message from Rex.
“Boss, what the hell are you doing at the hospital? Why are you telling everyone you’re Robin?”
