Emyr watched as the five men struggled, their bodies twitching in agony, and saw Laxus grinning cruelly, his expression twisted. For a moment, doubt flickered in his eyes.
The Fox, standing just behind him, spoke softly, “Surrender first. I’ll handle the hand–to–hand combat, and you take the remote.”
Emyr stayed silent for a long while. After a pause, he finally raised his hand and said, “Laxus, I accept your terms.”
“Boss!”
“Don’t trust him, Boss! He won’t let us go!”
Emyr ignored their cries and turned, walking toward the speedboat.
But just then, the five men, who had long given up on fearing death, suddenly shouted in unison. Emyr’s heart skipped a beat.
Before he could even process what was happening, the men had broken free from their restraints and, without hesitation, leaped into the dark depths of the sea.
“No!”
Emyr was jolted awake, his surroundings pitch–black. His heart raced, his body drenched in sweat.
It was a nightmare he hadn’t had in ages…
He squeezed his eyes shut, slumping against the headboard of the bed, lost in the shadows cast by the soft moonlight. A heavy loneliness seemed to hang in the air, suffocating him.
Then, a sound from outside snapped Emyr out of his daze. He quickly raised his head, the coldness in his eyes still lingering.
But when he saw who it was, his gaze softened slightly, his surprise momentarily freezing him.
For a fleeting second, it felt as if, amidst a violent snowstorm, a small, warm figure was approaching him.
A flicker of light, a hint of warmth, was coming his way.

Charmaine held a small cupcake, a tiny flame dancing atop it. She sang the birthday song as she walked toward the man, who had been staring blankly at the bed.

him.
Emyr’s thoughts stirred. After a brief moment of hesitation, he closed his eyes, and then blew out the candles.
In the soft glow of the moonlight, Charmaine’s smile seemed even sweeter, more radiant.
Emyr appeared momentarily lost in the moment, until Charmaine dipped her finger into the frosting and playfully smeared it on the tip of his nose.
“Why, are you that surprised?”
“Very surprised,” Emyr replied, instinctively pulling her closer. “How did you know today was my birthday?”
Charmaine blinked, her smile mischievous. “What do you think?”
Emyr didn’t need to guess much. “Aside from Kane, it was probably Alfred.”
“Ha, yes, it was Alfred!”
Charmaine turned on the room’s light and waved the cupcake near his mouth. “I wanted to get you a bigger cake, but when I asked Kane, he said you didn’t want to celebrate with them, so I got a smaller one instead. This way, the two of us can share it, and it wouldn’t be wasteful.”
When she said “the two of us,” something shifted unexpectedly in Emyr’s chest.
Without thinking, he tightened his grip on her hand.
Charmaine noticed and couldn’t help but laugh. “What, are you already moved? Wait until you see the real gift. You might actually cry!”
Emyr raised an eyebrow. “Oh? There’s a gift?”
“Of course! Do you think I’m that cheap, only getting you a small cake for your birthday?”
Charmaine puffed out her cheeks, playfully pushing the cupcake into his hands before rushing to the door of the suite. She quickly returned with something in her hands.
She held up a tailored deep blue suit for him. The suit’s sharp, structured lines were immediately visible, hand–stitched with intricate detail. The shoulders and sleeves were subtly decorated with dark patterns, giving it a refined yet understated elegance.
Not only that, but matching accessories–a tie, pin, and tie clip–completed the ensemble.
