Rex arrived at the romantic restaurant Raelyn had chosen half an hour early. Not long after, Rex’s aunt, the infamous Lorelei Sharp showed up, and the two exchanged a brief greeting.
Lorelei, wearing glasses, gave Rex a thorough once–over. She flashed a smile of approval. “Not bad, Rex. You look really handsome today. Wishing you success on your blind date!”
Rex gave a calm nod, his smile just the right mix of polite and natural, not showing any of the sharp thoughts running through his head. “Thanks, Auntie Lorelei.”
“Alright, I’ll sit over there.” Lorelei pointed to a table about two spaces away from Rex. “Waiting for the good news!”
“Got it. Thanks, Auntie Lorelei,” Rex said, watching as she walked to her seat.
He waved at the waiter to let them know the bill for her table would be his.
Rex then sat down with ease, playing with the red roses on the table, already mentally preparing for how to execute his plan for the evening.
The meeting time was set for 7 PM, but Oriel was ten minutes late.
She gave the reservation name to the staff and spotted Rex patiently waiting from afar. A small, satisfied smile tugged at her lips.
Oriel asked the staff, “How long has the guy at that table been here?”
The staff thought for a moment and said, “He’s been here for almost 40 minutes.”
“Really?” With a pleased expression, Oriel walked over with a graceful gait.
“Sorry I’m late,” she said as she approached the table.
Rex looked up and stood politely, pulling out her chair for her with perfect gentlemanly manners. “No worries. I just got here not too long ago.”
Oriel raised an eyebrow, impressed by Rex’s good looks and the grace in his every movement. She subtly
nodded to herself.
Rex noticed her little gesture and instinctively glanced toward Lorelei.
Sure enough, Lorelei had her phone out, snapping pictures of him. She was likely updating his mom on his
progress.
Rex straightened his back and returned to his seat.
“I heard you like seafood, Ms. Steel, so I ordered a few dishes I thought you’d enjoy,” Rex said, handing her the menu.
Oriel skimmed it, pleased with what she saw.
It was all in line with her tastes.
Originally, she had little hope for this blind date, coming only to appease her family.

She leaned on the table, her eyes leisurely following Rex as he poured her wine. Then, she spoke.
“Mr. Chapman, no need to pretend.”
Rex paused for just a second.
After a brief moment, he set the wine bottle down and smiled. “I’m afraid I don’t understand, Ms. Steel.”
Oriel leaned back in her chair, adopting a casual pose that was surprisingly similar to Rex’s.
She tilted her chin slightly. “I did some research on you. You’re a lot like me–your family’s been stressing you out, and you agreed to this blind date because you were pressured.”
Rex smiled but didn’t respond.
Oriel went on, “I had already planned how I was going to reject you, but now, I have a different idea.”
Rex gestured with his hand. “I’m listening.”
Oriel’s lips curled into a smile. Her rounded figure and soft features gave off a sense of wealth and poise. Her smile had a touch of authority to it.
“You don’t want to get married, and I don’t feel like dealing with it either. Instead of pretending and going against our families, why not team up and work together?
“I’m pretty satisfied with you, Mr. Chapman, and I think you won’t find anything wrong with me either. So, why don’t we make a deal? We can pretend this blind date was a success and avoid the hassle down the line.”
Oriel spoke candidly, “If we work well together, we might even extend the agreement later. We could get married but live our own lives–each doing our own thing.”
Rex listened carefully to her proposal, thinking it over for a moment before smiling and nodding. “That sounds pretty good.”
Oriel’s smile widened. “So, shall we work together?”
“Cooperation sounds fine,” Rex replied. “But before we move forward, I’d like you to learn more about my family, Ms. Steel.”
“There’s no need. I did some research on your family before I came,” Oriel began.
“No, no, there are some things you won’t find in any public records,” Rex said smoothly.
He pulled out his phone, opened a PowerPoint presentation, and handed it to her with a gesture. “Here’s our family’s code of conduct–ten rules. I’ve made it easy for you to follow.”
Rex caught the confused look on Oriel’s face and gave her a mischievous grin, adding a written explanation for each rule.
