Chapter 39 Wavering Milo
Milo’s expression softened, a trace of uncertainty flickering in his eyes.
“Why do I feel so useless?” Leah murmured, frustration spilling from her words.
In a sudden burst of emotion, she slapped her hand against her forehead, cursing herself.

Milo couldn’t bear to see her in pain. He immediately grabbed her hands, his heart sinking with guilt.
How could he have doubted her? After everything, Milo, you almost ruined her once before!
He scolded himself silently. “I’m sorry, Leah. I should’ve done more. You’re stuck in the middle of this mess, and I didn’t help. I made things worse.”
He let out a long breath, the weight of his regrets pressing down on him. “Don’t stress about the trolls. I’ll handle it. Just focus on getting better.”
His eyes were filled with concern. “You’ve been through too much already. Don’t let it drag you down. It’s not worth it.”
Leah hesitated before meeting his gaze. “Milo … do you still blame me?”

Milo’s expression softened further, and he shook his head. “I could never blame you, Leah. I’m here for you. Always. How could I ever blame you?”

He reached out and gently ruffled her hair, his voice filled with warmth.
Leah hugged him tightly, burying her face in his chest. “I’m glad you’re here, Milo. Really.”
She whispered, her voice barely audible. “You were meant to be with Chara. But because of me… no matter how mad she is at me, no matter how much she blames me, I deserve it.”
Before she could say more, Milo playfully flicked her forehead.
“Stop with that nonsense. Charmaine? A sister like that? I’ll pass.” His voice held a touch of irritation.
Leah laughed, the tension easing from her shoulders. Hearing his words made her feel lighter, as if a burden had been lifted.
Charmaine made a hearty lunch for Emyr, then used the excuse of needing to buy school supplies to step
out.
She packed her stuff and left the villa. Outside, a Lexus SUV was waiting by the door.
Thinking it was a ride Alfred had arranged for her, she opened the door and bent to climb in.
But inside, sitting
in the backseat, was a man in a sharp suit. His commanding presence was hard to ignore..
The car was spacious, yet his legs were slightly bent, a clear sign of his height when he stood.
Charmaine blinked in surprise. “Mr. Emyr?”

Entyr gave her a brief glance. “I’m heading out too. Alfred asked me to give you a ride.”
Charmaine raised an eyebrow, skeptical.
She couldn’t imagine Emyr simply obeying Alfred’s orders without question,
But, despite her doubts, she climbed into the car without a word.

Charmaine left Eastlake and soon arrived at the largest bookstore in the city.
She grabbed her small bag, glancing at Emyr. “I might be a while. You go ahead with your business, Mr. Emyr?”
Emyr gave her a slightly amused look. “Just head–back on your own.”
Charmaine suppressed a smile that threatened to appear. “Alright, Mr. Emyr.”
She jumped out of the car, bouncing toward the entrance with energy.
Emyr watched her, his gaze turning into a smirk before he muttered, “Drive,” and the car moved away.
Inside the bookstore, Charmaine handed the note she’d prepared to the clerk. The employee quickly set to work gathering the books she needed.
Five minutes later, Charmaine paid for the books and stepped out, hopping into a taxi.
Her destination was Central Hospital.
In her past life, she’d undergone a kidney transplant there with Leah. Soon after, her own health had begun to decline.
But today, she had different questions to answer.
Carrying her backpack, she walked ahead spotted a women’s restroom nearby.
Before she could enter, a sharp voice rang out. “You dare show your face here, Charmaine? You need to come with me and apologize to Leah!”
Sophie stormed up to her and grabbed Charmaine’s arm.
An idea clicked into Sophie’s mind. What if she dragged Charmaine to Leah, forced her to apologize, and posted the whole thing online? That would silence the rumors and take the pressure off Leah.
It was all Charmaine’s fault. If not for her, Leah wouldn’t have had to endure all the online mockery. Sophie’s anger burned at the thought.
Her fingers, sharp with fake nails, itched to hurt Charmaine, to make her feel the pain Sophie herself couldn’t express.
Charmaine flinched but quickly regained her composure. She snapped her arm free, looking Sophie in the eye.
“Get your hands off me.”
Sophie hadn’t exnected Charmaine to resist. She stumbled back her high heel twisting nainfully She

But Charmaine didn’t stop. She kept walking, uninterested in Sophie’s drama.
Sophie tried to go after her. She raised her leg only for sharp stab of pain shoot into her head.
