Freya’s chest churned with intense emotions. Regret consumed her, and she wanted to cry, to curl up and weep. But the heavy, oppressive darkness pressed down on her so forcefully that she couldn’t shed a single
tear.
How could she possibly accept this ridiculous, ironic reality?
Gradually, sorrow and regret morphed into anger–raw uncontrollable fury, and resentment.
If Charmaine hadn’t shown up, Freya would have been the one credited with healing Emyr’s legs. Emyr would never have been taken away from her. She wouldn’t have gone to such lengths–investing a fortune to secure the funding for the show, and she certainly wouldn’t have manipulated Todd into altering the prescriptions that harmed her grandmother.
It all traced back to Charmaine.
Todd, who had been anxiously awaiting a response from Freya, could no longer keep his composure. Desperately seeking credit, he spoke up.
“Ms. White, I followed your orders and staged a medical incident to frame Dr. Robin. You promised to help me secure a position in the Havenwood Hospital.”
The hallway was eerily silent. Without warning, the motion–sensing lights went dark, leaving only the faint green glow of the emergency exit sign, casting an ominous shadow across Freya’s crimson eyes, which only deepened her rage.
After a long pause, Freya’s voice broke the silence, cold and venomous. Each word she spoke was laced with hatred. “Perform well tomorrow. Once the deed is done, I’ll make your dreams come true.”
Todd was overjoyed; he could see himself entering into the Havenwood Hospital.
“Thank you, Ms. White!”
The next day arrived.
Charmaine had just arrived at her office to feed the kittens when the door was suddenly kicked startled kittens scattered in every direction, one even leaping out the window in panic.
Her heart tensed. She turned coldly around.

The men who followed were highly trained bodyguards–far more vicious than the previous troublemakers.
At Freya’s command, they lunged toward Charmaine.
Charmaine’s eyes glinted with cold fury. Without a moment’s hesitation, she kicked the lead bodyguard in the chest, sending him flying backward. Then, she grabbed a chair and hurled it at the rest of them.

Charmaine glanced at Freya, her movements lightning fast. Before the second wave of bodyguards could rush forward, Charmaine leaped forward, slipping through their defenses like a shadow, and stood face- to–face with Freya.
Freya’s eyes widened in disbelief. She couldn’t dodge in time, and she suddenly felt a chill against her neck.
In that instant, Freya’s face went pale with fear. “W–What do you want?!”
Charmaine sneered, her voice cold and mocking. “You came here first thing in the morning to look for trouble and scared off my kittens. Tell me, how should repay you?”
As she spoke, Charmaine’s fingers held a cold silver needle near Freya’s vulnerable neck.
She leaned in, her voice a whisper that sent shivers down Freya’s spine.
“Should I silence you for good, or just disable that impudent finger of yours?”
Freya’s body tensed, the hair on the back of her neck stood, her skin crawling with fear. Instinctively, she clutched her hand tight in a fist.
She glared at Charmaine with fury, trying to act tough. With so many people watching, if you dare to do anything to me, my parents will make sure you regret it!”
Charmaine’s eyes flashed with a deadly coldness. “Let’s see if that’s true.”
Freya saw the malice in Charmaine’s eyes and screamed in terror, “Arghhh!”
“Freya!”
Dale and Madge arrived just in time. They saw Charmaine raising the needle and about to thrust it into Freya’s body. Their hearts stopped in terror.
Along with the couple, there was Anthony Mendoza, the head of holistic medicine.
He was equally alarmed. “Robin, let Ms. White

immediately!”
Madge, upon seeing the scene, almost collapsed, her lips trembling with fury. “You wretch! You already poisoned Agatha, and now you want to kill my daughter?”
Again, she accused her with the same words.
Charmaine remembered Freya had said something similar earlier.
They were accusing her of poisoning Agatha?
She narrowed her eyes slightly, then gave a derisive snort and shoved Freya aside.
