Charmaine couldn’t help but wonder, Back when Agatha was on her deathbed, had she used the same tactics to force doctors into administering aggressive treatments just to prolong her life?
Maybe that was why she firmly believed there was always a way to defy the laws of nature, to force her failing, depleted body to live far beyond its limits.
Once again, Charmaine stated, “I really can’t cure your illness.”
Agatha’s face darkened.
She had said so much, yet Charmaine remained unmoved. Her initial approach of reasoning and pleading had failed, and in an instant, Agatha’s mask of politeness fell away, revealing an obsessive, near–manic determination. Gone was the woman who had been trying to win Charmaine over with words; in her place was someone ruthless and sinister, her true nature laid bare.
“You’re being unreasonable!” Agatha shrieked. “I’ve been more than polite, and this is how you repay me? Listen to me–if I was able to secure the title sponsorship for this show, I can just as easily ruin you! When that happens, your esteemed mentor won’t be spared either–he’ll be dragged down with you and publicly condemned!”
Her sharp, venomous voice sent a surge of anger through Charmaine, making her clench her fists.
She knew Agatha was trying to provoke her. She also knew that both Agatha and Freya were the kind of people who would do anything to get their way.
Agatha’s threats didn’t scare her, but she absolutely could not allow Basil’s name to be tarnished.
After a deep breath, Charmaine forced down her frustration and spoke through gritted teeth, “Fine. I’ll treat
you.
“But let me make this clear–I have my limits. I can only help slow down your organ failure. During the treatment, you must follow my medication plan exactly. If you take anything outside of what I prescribe and something happens, it’s on you.”
Hearing this, Agatha’s hostility vanished in an instant, replaced by a delighted smile.
“That’s more like it. At my age, I have no interest in causing unnecessary trouble. As long as you treat me properly, you’ll be just fine.”
Charmaine didn’t respond. Instead, she stood up and retrieved her silver needles to begin needle treatment.
“You have an excessive buildup of toxins and cold energy in your body. I’ll detoxify you first. After that, you’ll need to soak in an herbal bath every night using the ingredients I prescribe. Take your medicine twice a day. I’ll be staying here for a while, so come back for a follow–up in a week.”
She paused, then added, “No need to take a queue number.”
“Got it.”
Agatha had once again put on her gentle, friendly façade.

Since Agatha had come under Kirsten’s name for treatment, Charmaine couldn’t provide a written diagnosis. If she did, it would interfere with Kirsten’s future medical records at Beacon Hospital.
Instead, she entered a prescription into the system and instructed Agatha to pick up her medication directly from the pharmacy.
Agatha thanked her several times before leaving with a satisfied grin.
Just before stepping out the door, she turned back and said, “I do hope you’ll consider becoming my physician. The salary and reputation you’d gain would far surpass what a doctor in a top–tier hospital could ever achieve.”
A classic mix of carrot and stick.
Charmaine smirked coldly. “Thanks for the offer, but I’m not interested in money or fame.
This time, Agatha didn’t get angry. “No worries. Maybe you’ll change your mind someday.”
With that, she left, her bodyguards following closely behind.
Charmaine finally exhaled, shaking off the stifling tension in her chest.
She gathered her things–she was supposed to meet Rex for lunch, and now she was running late.
Just then, there was a knock at the door. Todd, an intern, peeked in. “Dr. Robin.”
He stepped forward eagerly. “Are you busy? I can help you organize the final diagnostic reports.”
Scratching his head, he added sheepishly, “I’d like to learn more about your consultation process and diagnosis methods.”
Charmaine didn’t think much of it and nodded. “Alright, I’ll leave it to you.”
Todd looked genuinely grateful. “It’s my pleasure! Thank you for the opportunity.”
He watched as Charmaine quickly left, his gaze flickering behind his glasses before he shut the door.
Charmaine didn’t bother removing her special effects makeup before heading straight to Ydris Group.
The elevator required fingerprint access, so she entered smoothly. Inside the CEO’s office, she spotted Rex sprawled over the massive floor–to–ceiling window. She had no idea what he was doing.
