He wouldn’t admit it, but Charmaine was starting to ge under his skin,

Once Tad had left, Emyr wheeled himself into the bathroom as he usually did. The maid facing away from him was checking the water’s temperature. He spoke curtly, “Leave.”
The maid stood and turned around at a slow pace.
“Mr. Emyr, it’s not safe for someone with your condition to be alone. Let me assist you.”
When he saw Charmaine’s smile drawing near, Emyr raised an eyebrow, a brief flash of surprise crossing his face.
The brief expression vanished so quickly that even Emyr might not have realized it.
He quickly replaced it with a look of disdain, “What is it now, Charmaine?”
Charmaine approached the wheelchair with a playful gleam in her eyes.
She slightly leaned in and teased, “Didn’t you ask me to look after you, so here I am, ready to take care of you…
Emyr froze for a moment, his attention caught by a glimpse of what lay inside Charmaine’s neckline from this angle.
In that brief lapse of focus, Charmaine had already undone two buttons of his shirt.
His face shifted in an instant, and he tightened his grip on Charmaine’s delicate wrist, as though a slight squeeze could snap it.
But in the blink of an eye, Charmaine swiftly twisted her hand by taking control of his, and forcefully slammed his arm onto the wheelchair’s armrest.
The sharp sound of the impact echoed throughout the bathroom.
For a moment, they both froze; their eyes locked in mutual surprise.
Emyr’s expression darkened immediately.
Seeing the fury blazing in his eyes, Charmaine hesitantly let go of his hand. “Sorry, it was instinct.
As she released his hand and flipped it over to inspect the damage, her eyes widened in alarm.
The redness stretched from the palm of his hand all the way up to his elbow.
Her guilt deepened as she spoke softly, “I didn’t think you’d grab me so hard. Should I, uh … give you a massage or something?”
Emyr’s piercing gaze locked onto her, his voice laced with suspicion. “Charmaine, what kind of stunt are you pulling this time?”
Charmaine scrunched up her nose playfully, her expression feigning innocence. “Was it that obvious?”

Did she seriously think he’d fall for that?
“Come on, don’t look at me like I’ve committed a crime Charmaine said, throwing her hands up. “How was I supposed to know you’re so fragile? It’s not like I planned for you to bruise from a little. roughhousing.”
He must have originally had pale skin, and even though he now sported a sun–kissed tan, it didn’t make sense for his skin to redden so easily from such a light touch.
Charmaine noticed the man fixing hor with a silent stare, his eyes as menacing as a helpless fish trapped in a crocodile pit. She instinctively pressed her lips together.
“I just don’t want you to be mad at me.”
Her sweet voice tinged with a playful charm carried a calming warmth that made his heart falter for a brief
moment.
It was as if something invisible had nudged open a tiny crack within him, letting in an uninvited feeling he couldn’t quite name.
Maintaining his composure, he shot back with a sarcastic edge, “Since when did you start caring about that?”
“I always have,” she replied earnestly.
Charmaine responded instantly, oblivious to the slight softening in Emyr’s expressioh.
However, she went on, “If you despise me and won’t let me treat your leg, does that mean I’m doomed to be your servant forever?”
His face darkened once more as he shoved her aside.
For a fleeting moment, he genuinely questioned whether he’d end up losing control and strangle her one day.
“Hey, you!”
Charmaine was confused; Emry was truly a handful.
She waved her hand and went on, “I actually came here to tell you something.”
Emyr shot her a mocking glance.
So, it was finally time for her to reveal her true self.
“I’ll be starting school next week, so I won’t be here during the day.”
After Charmaine finished speaking, there was a pause before Emyr asked in a tone that sounded off, “Is that it?”
“Yes, Alfred was worried you’d be angry, so he asked me to tell you personally.”
Emyr sneered, “I don’t have time to deal with you.”
“Alright then.”

Charmaine pouted, holding back the urge to snap back at him.

She couldn’t help but wonder who had the time to chase her down at Ydris, or who was so moody and quick to anger,
If she weren’t worried about him showing up at school to find her, she wouldn’t have bothered coming at
all.
She glanced at the hot water in the bath and said, “Well, take care of yourself. I’ll head out now…”
“Continue.”
Charmaine paused, wondering if she had misheard. She pointed at him, then at herself. “Didn’t you just tell me to leave?”
“That was earlier, but this is now.”
