There was a hint of amusement–mischievousness hidden in his tone, like a predator playing with its prey.
Feigning curiosity, she asked, “Oh? What’s the process for getting into the CEO’s office? Is there some kind of test or evaluation?”
Emyr slowly shook his head. “It requires my direct approval.”

Charmaine leaned in slightly, tilting her head up to meet his gaze with an earnest expression. “So, Mr. Emyr, what would it take for you to agree?”
This time, she made the first move, closing the gap between them.
Emyr could feel her soft breath against his throat.
It was subtle, yet it sent an unexpected shiver through his body.
Something about it stirred deep within him.
His breath unconsciously hitched, as if he was trying to keep his composure. But before he could stop himself, he lowered his head, instinctively leaning closer to her.

Emyr nodded, looking satisfied. “Good.”
Then, he said nothing more, locking eyes with her in unwavering silence.
The meaning was obvious.

But just as she was about to close the distance, stopping a mere half inch away, she suddenly halted.

Before Charmaine could finish her sentence with a restrained grin, his strong palm pressed against the back of her head. Despite the teased man’s flustered and furious expressions, he pulled her in desperately and kissed her fiercely.
Gasping for air and struggling to keep up with his rhythm, Charmaine flailed in protest, her mind screaming in regret. Why did I have to push my luck?
