Charmaine’s eyes brightened with gratitude as she glanced at the old principal.
Rex quickly said, “All right, I have no objections!”

No one else objected. The emcee stepped onto the stage and handed the drawing box to Charmaine.
Charmaine took a deep breath and reached in to grab a small white ball with the company’s name written on it.
She quickly read the two characters, and her mouth twitched slightly.
Then, the emcee’s voice echoed through the hall, announcing, “The result of Charmaine’s draw is … Cross Group! Congratulations to Charmaine.”
Leah’s eyes widened in shock, her face turned pale with fury.
Hearing the result, Emyr slowly relaxed his grip on the armrest that had instinctively tightened before.
At that moment, he found himself unexpectedly tense as well!
If she had drawn the Carters or the Ricas, that would’ve been fine, but if it was the Quinns or Ydris Group …
The mere thought of it made a dark, chilling look flash in his eyes.
The hall erupted into thunderous applause, and it took Shawn a while to snap out of his silence. “Wait, seriously? Out of all of us, no one else got chosen?”
He looked around with a suspicious gaze; a wicked grin on his face as he teased, “Could it be that Mr. Emyr cheated secretly?”
Rex immediately turned to stare at Emyr.
Emyr’s expression turned icy as he smirked, mocking, “Can’t handle losing?”
Shawn chuckled and gave a small bow, then fell silent.
Rex shot Emyr a glare, clearly irritated.
Amid the thunderous applause and the gaze of everyone, Charmaine calmly returned to her seat.
Whispers filled the air–all mixed with envy, admiration, and jealousy, but to her, none of it really mattered.
Celeste grabbed her arm, shaking it excitedly, “Charmaine, Charmaine, you’re amazing! You have no idea, when Mr. Emyr and the others were fighting to get you, I swear, every student here wished they could switch souls with you. You’re totally the heroine of a feel–good story!”
Charmaine chuckled. “Is it really that dramatic?”

She laughed, pointing to the back row. “I bet Leah, sitting back there, is going crazy with jealousy!”
Charmaine raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything.
However, she could definitely imagine the scene Celeste was describing.

With the first–place students‘ internship destination decided, the rest of the students had their placements randomly assigned by the system, ensuring the remaining spots were evenly distributed.
Celeste was thrilled to also be placed at Cross Group for her internship. She was so excited that she wanted to pick Charmaine up and spin her around.
Once the draw was over, Emyr and the others left. The host then briefly went over some important reminders for the winter break.
Half an hour later, with the principal’s early New Year wishes, the first semester of junior year was officially wrapped up, and winter break began.
Celeste, obviously thrilled, couldn’t stop talking as she hugged Charmaine all the
way.
Dominic was also excited, planning to take advantage of the moment to invite Charmaine out for a meal.
The father and daughter were chatting back and forth, and Charmaine, not wanting to be rude, went along with it. But before they even reached the parking lot, she received a call from someone.
The man’s voice was as cold as ever. “Thirty degrees at the school gate.”
Charmaine was surprised. “You haven’t left yet?”
“I’m waiting for you.”
The unexpected words made Charmaine’s heart pound for a few seconds.
After hanging up, she gave Celeste an apologetic smile. “Sorry, I have to leave first.”
Celeste gave her an understanding look and smiled. “No worries, go ahead! We won’t be third–wheeling.”
Charmaine waved goodbye to them, and as she did, Celeste was already thinking about taking her mom and the rest of the family out for a meal. But just then, her phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID, Celeste quickly answered and veered off Dominic’s direction.
“What’s up?”
Rex said directly, “I saw it!”
Celeste jumped in surprise. “W–what did you see?”
“Didn’t Charmaine come with you? Why didn’t she leave with you? Where’s she going? You probably don’t know. I’m going to follow her and see!”

Rex grinned, thinking his idea was foolproof. “If we get caught, I’ll just say we’re on a date and happened to be nearby.”
Celeste inhaled sharply. This shameless flirt is trying to use me as an excuse!
But she hesitated. If I turned him down and he tailed them secretly, wouldn’t that ruin Mr. Emyr and Charmaine’s time together?
“Fine. Wait there, I’m coming.”
Glancing at Dominic, she called out, “Dad, I’ve got something to do. Just go ahead and celebrate with Mom, okay? Bye!”
With that, she dashed away without a second glance.
Watching his daughter disappear in a flash, Dominic stood there, utterly confused.
“Could it be that my daughter has fallen for someone?”
But recalling Celeste’s fiery personality, Dominic quickly dismissed the thought. “No way. Who would be unfortunate enough to catch her interest?”
Charmaine followed the direction Emyr had indicated, only to discover that he had switched to a Rolls- Royce Cullinan. There wasn’t a single bodyguard in sight.
She lowered her head and swiftly got into the car.

She couldn’t help but smile and deliberately hesitated before answering, “Probably not!”
Looking mildly irritated, Emyr let out a huff, then raised his hand as if to flick her forehead.
Charmaine instinctively squinted and leaned her head back.
But in an instant, instead of feeling any pain on her forehead, she felt a gentle warmth on her earlobes.
She opened her eyes again, only to find Emyr toying with her ears.
His brows furrowed slightly. “They’re freezing. Why didn’t you wear a scarf?”
The chilly wind had numbed even her ears.
Charmaine puffed up her cheeks. “We won’t be too long, I won’t freeze.”
Satan recoiled at the sensation. “It’s too cold, not good to touch.”
Charmaine was startled.
Listen to that. Does that even sound like something a human would say?
After warming one ear, Emyr reached for the other, signaling for her to come closer.
Charmaine gawked at him, but ultimately surrendered to the silent command in his icy gaze.
Scooting forward, she obediently settled into his waiting arms, pressing against his chest.
Maybe it was just her mind playing tricks, but the warmth from his fingers seemed to spread, making her face heat up as well.
At the front, Tad, who was driving, wisely raised the partition between the front and back seats.
Though the car had this function for years, it had never been used until now.
Now that Emyr and Charmaine were deep in a conversation about their relationship, it seemed unlikely that the partition would lower anytime soon.
Charmaine gaped in astonishment as the partition slid up, her eyes growing as round as coins.
“Hold on, what exactly is Tad trying to imply?” she blurted out.
It almost seemed like he thought that they were up to doing something improper in the backseat!
