She patted Basil’s back reassuringly. He might have been ranting just now, but Charmaine could hear the genuine frustration in his voice.
How lucky she was to have these Elders in her life–people who cared for her wholeheartedly, expecting nothing in return.
They weren’t family, yet they were more than that.
With others doubting her abilities, she knew she had to prove herself. She couldn’t just let those voices linger and upset them.
Charmaine said gently, “I’ve agreed to this. Besides, I don’t even have to show my face on the program, so it’s not a big deal. More importantly, my teacher has taught me so much, yet I’ve never really given back to him or to the medical field. Doing a little promotion isn’t too much to ask.”
Hearing her words, Basil’s heart melted in an instant.
He understood Charmaine better than anyone.
She might appear cold and distant, but deep down, she was softer and more steadfast than anyone else.
“Good kid. We always knew we were right about you.”
Then, unable to hold back, Basil scoffed, “Only those blind fools in the Nelson family can’t tell good from bad!”
Charmaine burst into laughter.
As Paxton left the government building, he sent a message to his assistant, instructing them to begin preparations for the program.
It didn’t take long before Olympia called, having somehow already caught wind of the news.
Paxton’s wife, Briana Zimmer, was Olympia’s childhood best friend. Not long ago, the Nelsons had even invited them over for dinner.
That connection played a crucial role in Leah securing this variety show.
Paxton’s tone remained calm. “Mrs. Nelson, how can I help you?”
Olympia smiled politely. “Mr. Zimmer, I just heard from Briana that your program has officially entered the preparation stage.”
Paxton’s smile didn’t reach his eyes. “That’s right, I just wrapped up a meeting with the government.“
“Mr. Zimmer, you’ve been working so hard. About Leah and Zayn…”

Given the uproar caused by the Nelsons‘ mix–up at the summit–and with Briana being Olympia’s close friend–Paxton had heard bits and pieces about their family scandal.
Not sure how she would react, he decided to probe a little. “By the way, Basil’s disciple, Robin, will be joining as a special guest for one of the episodes.”
“Robin?”
On the other end of the line, Olympia sounded ecstatic. “That’s amazing! My son idolizes Professor Robin! I never expected them to be on the same show–getting the chance to film and collaborate is such an honor!”
As she spoke, Olympia quickly instructed a servant to pass the good news to Leah and Zayn.
Paxton immediately grasped the situation.
Charmaine had kept her identity so well hidden that even her own family was unaware.
Then again, given how things had unfolded with her biological parents …
Maybe it was better that way.
Paxton couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for Olympia. She had such an outstanding, admirable daughter but failed to appreciate her. Instead, she clung to a fake heiress who had nothing to offer but connections.
What an irony.
Paxton couldn’t help but wonder–how would they react if they found out that Robin was actually their biological daughter? That she had earned the deep respect of The Four Elders?
If it were him, he’d be drowning in regret.
Keeping his tone indifferent, Paxton said, “That’s all for now. My assistant will follow up with you on the program details.”
“Oh, Mr. Zimmer, one more thing…”
Paxton’s patience was running out as he heard Olympia speak in a low voice, “You know, we mentioned it at dinner. The issue with the summit performance lineup, was where someone changed the guest performers without permission. There’s talk of holding someone accountable for it…
Paxton could feel his temples throbbing in irritation.
