Of course, satisfying her appetite was one thing, but the real joy came from the sheer happiness in her heart.
The group next door had been watching her feast all by herself, their eyes filled with envy, jealousy, and sheer longing. That feeling was utterly satisfying!
She lay back on the grass, basking in the sunlight, completely relaxed. Before she knew it, she was drifting off to sleep.
Suddenly, her phone rang, and Celeste lazily picked up.
“Hello?”
“Where’s Charmaine?”
She jolted awake instantly, her drowsiness vanishing in a heartbeat.
Quickly sitting up, she glanced around.
Sure enough…
Not far away, inside that fancy glass suite, the ever–flashy pretty boy Rex was staring at her through the glass like a hamster trapped in a bubble.
Seeing her sit there, staring blankly without answering, he repeated, “Where is she? Why isn’t she picking up her phone?”
“Oh, her? She went out for a walk nearby and didn’t bring her phone.”
“Where exactly did she go?”
“Uhm… Thar
kinda hard to explain. Hold on, I’ll come find you!”
Celeste quickly hung up the phone and dashed toward Rex’s suite without another word.
She hurried inside and closed all the curtains, blocking all view of the outside world, as her classmates watched in disbelief. Veronica laughed mockingly and said, “Whoa, I thought Celeste was always boasting about her family’s wealth and behaving quite superior. Turns out, she’s merely utilizing this strategy to advance in her career!”
The others exchanged stunned glances. “Huh? No way Isn’t Celeste’s dad super powerful?”

Veronica smirked darkly. “Powerful? Is he more powerful than Rex? Her dad’s been practically glued to Rex lately, sucking up to him for all he’s worth!”
Ever since Dominic started working under Rex, Veronica’s parents had been filled with resentment at home. They constantly wonder why they can’t get any business favors from Emyr. In both subtle and not–so–subtle ways, they’ve made it painfully clear that she is the useless one!
That only fueled Veronica’s hate for Celeste. Letting her jealousy fester, she sneered cruelly, her words dripping with malice. “Haha! The dad clings to power, the daughter throws herself at the boss. What a perfect family business! Ouch!”

Charmaine casually placed the empty bowl back on the table, wiping the oil from her fingertips with practiced case.
She cast a lazy, indifferent glance in Veronica’s direction–just enough to make the girl shudder despite her
rage.
“No need to pin your own filthy thoughts and schemes on someone else. Veronica, don’t think for a second that nobody knows about the things you’ve done.”

Veronica went rigid, her whole body trembling in panic.
What did Charmaine mean by that?!
Could it be…
She knew something!
But Charmaine had no time to waste on Veronica. She quickly packed up a few things, sent a message to Celeste, and left for Emyr’s place.
Behind her, Veronica glared daggers at her retreating figure, jealousy practically blazing from her eyes.
Inside the suite.
Celeste finally let out a breath of relief after drawing all the curtains shut.
Just then, her phone buzzed with a message from Charmaine.
“I’m staying with Emyr. Will you be okay sleeping alone tonight?”
Celeste’s love–obsessed brain went wild. She typed back furiously, “I’m fine! I can do it! I’m totally okay! You go ahead and have a good night with Mr. Emyr!”
Charmaine was at a loss for words.
Celeste was practically bursting with silent laughter.
As soon as she turned around, she saw Rex leaning casually against the doorway, long legs crossed, chin resting on his hand, eyeing her like he was trying to figure out what kind of scheme she was plotting. A chill ran down her spine.
She quickly locked her phone, clearing her throat. “Ahem. Don’t get the wrong idea. I don’t want Charmaine walking in and seeing me with you. It’d be hard to explain.”
Rex thought for a moment, then nodded. He muttered under his breath, “Yeah, better be carefu… if Boss finds out, I’ll get chewed out for sure.”
Honestly, he hadn’t expected to get caught so soon–even after switching to an old, beat–up car. There was just no escaping Boss‘ radar!

Celeste’s heart jumped. “No!”
She acted on pure instinct, her warning barely leaving her lips as she lunged toward Rex-
Caught off guard, Rex instinctively stepped back, his foot hitting the sofa leg-
In the next instant, they both tumbled onto the couch, tangled in a heap. Celeste’s lips landed awkwardly on the corner of Rex’s mouth.
