Charmaine leaned in and whispered, “Let’s just sit in the back.”
They headed for the last row, which was completely unoccupied. Just then, Daniel’s sleek Ferrari rolled up beside the bus. Leah and Veronica stepped in gracefully, flashing smug looks at those still inside.
Fuming, Celeste ripped open a bag of chips and crunched into them aggressively. “Ugh, I’m so mad!”
Charmaine, however, remained unbothered. “Getting angry just means you’re playing into their hands.
Celeste turned to her, puzzled. “What do you mean?”
Charmaine explained calmly, “Leah knew she couldn’t win against you, so she deliberately brought up the spa memberships to make those girls regret their choice and shift their frustration onto you. Do you truly think she was going to give away 60,000 just like that?”
Having known Leah for a while, Celeste understood her stingy nature. “Of course not!”
Now that she saw through the trick, her frustration eased.
Her eyes lit up as she turned to Charmaine and hugged her. “Charmaine, you’re a lifesaver for my sanity!”
Charmaine was at a loss for words.

Keystone Peak, located on the border, had been turned into a camping retreat a few years ago. A dedicated road led up the mountain, winding through dense greenery.
The previous night’s downpour had left the ground damp and slick beneath the morning sun. To ensure safety, the bus driver eased off the accelerator, navigating carefully up the road.
