Cash felt touched. “Alright. Thank you, Mr. Read.”
After he left, Leah scoffed. “Why are you worrying about him? He’s just a poor guy.”

Bennett locked the door of the private room and sat down beside her. “He may be struggling now. But trust me, he’s going places!”
Leah chuckled. “Oh? And you think you’re the one who’s going to help him get there?”
Bennett smiled mysteriously. “No. 1le’s the one who’s going to help us rise.”
Before Leah could ask what he meant, Sophic chimed in. “Your grandfather read his fortune. He might face hardship and criticism in his youth, but later in life, he’ll be incredibly successful. If he weren’t capable, do you think he could’ve helped your father get six million back?”
Leah remained doubtful. “If he’s so talented, how did he even end up working for you?”
Bennett laughed. “Maybe it’s just good luck on our part. And don’t forget–you listened to your grandfather and reclaimed Charmaine’s fortune. Maybe some of that luck has come back to you. Just look, Cash showed up at the perfect time!”
He patted Leah’s hand. “We’re family. We should stick together. If Cash helps us make money now, the company will expand, and one day, it’ll all be yours.”
That explanation finally made Leah satisfied.
Thinking it over, she realized it made sense.
She didn’t trust Bennett or Sophie much, but her grandfather–who lived deep in the mountains–was a different story. She believed in him completely.
“Alright,” she agreed. “But let’s be clear–Cash runs the company in person while you stay behind the scenes. Otherwise, we might run into trouble with the Nelsons or Emyr again.”

Time passed quickly, and soon, it was exam week.
Those final exams determined which students would get a chance at next semester’s internship lottery. Several well–known companies were participating, so everyone was on edge, studying hard.
With 13 subjects to cover–including both general and specialized courses–students had to take two exams per day.
Rather than going home, Charmaine chose to eat at the cafeteria and then rest on a stone bench near the artificial lake, soaking up the sun before her afternoon exams.

For the first three days, she followed this routine. Then, a post appeared on the campus forum. Someone who had taken an exam in the same classroom as Charmaine wrote about how she always finished at least 30 minutes carly. Soon enough, people were calling her a genius.
Not long after, someone else uploaded a photo of her napping by the lake. When she returned from lunch the next day, she was surprised to find that every single bench had been taken.
It didn’t take long to realize what had happened–students had flocked there, hoping to absorb some of her so–called good luck.
“Look! The genius is here!” someone whispered excitedly.
“But wait, all the seats are taken. Where’s she going to nap?”
People exchanged awkward glances, but no one was willing to give up their spot.
Eventually, a classmate from her class stood up. “Charmaine, you can have my seat.”
Charmaine shook her head. “No need. You guys stay.”
With so many students crowding the area, she knew she wouldn’t be able to get proper sleep anyway.
Waving at them, she turned and walked away.
On her way, she texted Celeste, “Where are you resting at noon?”
Celeste’s reply came instantly. “Rest? Are you kidding? I still have half a book to read!”
“… Alright. Keep at it.”
After wandering for a while, she decided to head to the rooftop of the teaching building.
It was the perfect spot–plenty of sunlight and no one around to bother her.
Lying down, she casually picked up a book, flipped it open, and rested it over her face before drifting off to sleep.
When the bell rang below, signaling the end of the break, she stretched lazily, feeling refreshed.
Ready to leave, she grabbed the door handle–but it wouldn’t budge.
Charmaine frowned. She had noticed earlier that the door required a manual lock.
Which meant …

Reaching for her phone, she tried to call for help, only to realize there was no signal.
