The summit lasted three full days, and when it finally concluded, Cross Group secured several major government–backed projects. Every night was spent in business dinners for the entire week following the event, leaving little time for anything else.
Meanwhile, Charmaine found herself with plenty of free time. Aside from attending school, she spent her days sketching and playing the piano at home.
Rex was just as busy on his end, but no matter how swamped he was, his love for gossip never took a backseat.
“Hahahaha, Boss, during the piano recital, the Nelsons completely humiliated themselves! They became the laughingstock of the entire Eragos! And if that wasn’t enough, throughout the entire summit, they didn’t manage to secure a single collaboration deal. Not one! Hahaha!
“The so–called ‘century–old prestigious family‘? What a joke! Even the official media outlets have stopped giving them coverage–they don’t want to be associated with such a disgrace! Those smaller business partners they used to look down on? Well, guess what? The big players raked in massive profits this time, while the Nelsons walked away empty–handed. Can you imagine how furious they must be right now? Hilarious!”
Not long after Rex finished sharing the gossip, Celeste sent Charmaine a message that was pretty much the
same.
“My old man did some digging. It turns out that Willard was too proud to beg for partnerships himself, so he sent his son to negotiate instead. But those seasoned businessmen just played dumb, acting like they didn’t understand him at all. I bet Jonah must’ve been fuming–after all, he’s got such a pretty face, but it was all for nothing! Hahaha!
“And get this.
even their fourth son, Zayn–the so–called academic prodigy who just returned from abroad -got kicked out of his research group by his own professor. Hah! And it’s all thanks to Leah! If she hadn’t stolen my performance slot, the Nelsons wouldn’t have embarrassed themselves this badly. She’s seriously cursed–single–handedly dragging down her entire family!
“The funniest part? The Nelsons still haven’t figured this out! They’re still wrapped around Leah’s finger. Apparently, Mrs. Nelson has been personally introducing her to industry connections, trying to push her into the entertainment business. Honestly, I hope they keep spoiling her! Let’s see just how many more creative ways they can find to screw themselves over!”
As Charmaine read their messages, listening to them gloat and laugh non–stop, the corners of her lips curled slightly.
Of course, the Nelsons would continue doting on Leah. They saw her as their lucky star–their family’s divine blessing.
She was eager to see just how Leah would repay their overwhelming affection.
Emyr entered the room just in time to see Charmaine smiling at her phone, clearly amused by whatever she was reading.
His gaze darkened slightly as he maneuvered his wheelchair closer. “Freya called. She said Master Field has agreed to personally treat my legs.”
“Really? That’s amazing!”

Charmaine looked up from her phone, her face lighting up with joy. However, her reaction didn’t seem particularly surprising more like something she had already expected.

Emyr’s dark eyes deepened even further as he studied the woman’s delicate features before him, observing her every subtle emotion.
“My people have been in contact with Master Field for a while, but we’ve made no progress. Yet Freya managed to succeed.” His voice was sharp as he questioned her, “You don’t seem the least bit surprised by this. Why?”
Charmaine’s heart skipped a beat.
Of course, she couldn’t tell him the truth–that she had known all along that Basil had already agreed to help!
Freya’s so–called ‘success‘ was nothing more than the old man finding an excuse to act on his own terms.
She forced a casual smile. “Well, when I took that photo with Master Field the other day, I felt he was a kind and easygoing person. Plus, Freya is so sincere–of course, she’d be able to win him over. And look! Good news, right? Now that Master Field is personally stepping in, you can walk again soon!”
Her gaze naturally dropped to his legs, her bright, clear eyes filled with genuine anticipation.
Seeing how happy she was–almost more excited than he was–Emyr narrowed his eyes slightly.
“Charmaine, even if my legs recover, you still have a debt to repay.”
Charmaine snapped out of her excitement, frowning slightly.
She pouted. “I know, I know. Even if you can walk again, I’ll still have to do all the work around here.”
Emyr’s eyes darkened. “Oh? And do you remember exactly what you need to do?”
Internally, Charmaine rolled her eyes.
Seriously? Satan didn’t even trust her to keep up with her duties? Did he think she was slacking off or something?
She huffed, listing things off without much thought. “What else? Cleaning, cooking, waking you up in the morning, putting you to bed at night.”
Emyr raised an eyebrow. “And?”
Charmaine blinked. “And?”
