Rex didn’t argue and simply waited for Celeste to continue.

She tapped her fingers on the table and said, “The first time we met was at the classroom door. Back then, you asked me why Charmaine wasn’t in class. Do you know her?”
Celeste was impulsive by nature, never one to hide her thoughts. She had no idea that Rex was observing all her little expressions.
He let out a soft laugh and casually threw out a remark. “How do you think your dad managed to win the South City development project?”
Celeste froze, her mind racing.
Her dad had told her before that winning the bid wasn’t just due to Charmaine’s encouragement but also thanks to Rex, the big investor backing the project. That’s why he was so eager to please Rex.
But now, why was Rex bringing this up?
Unless …
She hesitantly voiced the possibility that seemed too far–fetched. “Was it because of Charmaine?”
Rex smirked. “You’re not that dumb after all.”
Celeste clamped a hand over her mouth in shock.
Oh. My. God.
In her wildest dreams, she had never thought that Charmaine would have any connection to Rex! She was still shipping Charmaine with Emyr!
Her mind was in chaos while Rex, elegantly crossing his legs, watched her dumbfounded reaction with amusement. Then, as if a thought crossed his mind, he leaned forward slightly.
“If you want me to forget about all the stupid things you’ve done, it’s not impossible.
“You just have to do something for me.”
Celeste instantly grew wary. “Say it first.”
“Tsk. What kind of look is that? You think I’d set you up?” Rex shrugged. “It’s simple. You and Charmaine are classmates. I want you to look out for her at school.”
Celeste’s wariness disappeared in an instant, and she burst into laughter. “You didn’t even need to ask! Charmaine is my friend. I’d protect her with or without you telling me to.”
Rex sipped his tea and leisurely added, “And one more thing–let me know who she spends time with, especially any guys.”
That made Celeste freeze.
Ah–ha! So, this sneaky fox finally showed his true colors!

Rex waited, but Celeste remained silent. He narrowed his eyes slightly, sensing that she might be up to something.
He had looked into her background before. She used to be on the same side as Leah and had bullied Charmaine a few times. Now, she’d suddenly switched sides and was all buddy–buddy with Charmaine? That made her unreliable in his eyes.
If he weren’t so busy with work and Charmaine had more friends, he would’ve been the first to oppose her hanging around!
His expression turned cold. “What’s wrong? Can’t even do this little favor, and you still expect me to forgive you?”
Celeste sneered. “I’m not a snitch. I won’t betray my friends.”
“Oh? So you actually care about loyalty?”
Rex clearly didn’t believe her. He chuckled before delivering his final blow. “Fine, forget it. The South City project–your dad pulling out now wouldn’t cause much of a stir.”

Celeste slammed the table and shot up, her eyes burning with rage. Her hands clenched the tablecloth so tightly that she would’ve grabbed Rex by the neck if she had any less self–control!
“Rex, are you even a man? Just because I offended you twice, you’re being this unreasonable?!”
Rex looked completely unfazed, exuding a shameless, untouchable aura. “I’ve made my offer. If you agree, we’ll work together, and I’ll pretend none of this ever happened. If you don’t…”
He trailed off, but the threat was crystal clear.
Celeste’s eyes were practically spitting fire.
Charmaine must’ve had the worst luck in the world to catch the attention of such a petty, grudge–holding, pretentious man!
No way. As a good friend, she had to help Charmaine escape his clutches!
Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to calm down. She plopped back into her chair, shooting daggers at Rex’s annoyingly smug face. Finally, she let out a long breath.
“Fine. I’ll do it. But let’s be clear–I’m not telling you anything private.”
Rex raised a brow. “Deal.”
He lifted his teacup. “Looking forward to working together.”
Like hell, she was looking forward to this.
Celeste forced a fake smile, grabbed her teacup, and dramatically rolled her eyes before downing the tea in
one go.
