Chapter 24 Protection
Before Leah could get close to Emyr, Tad stepped in her way.
“Ms. Nelson, Mr. Emyr doesn’t like outsiders getting too close.”
“Sorry about that,” Leah replied calmly, maintaining her poise. “Mr. Emyr, the Nelson Group is facing a minor challenge, but with Jonah’s capabilities, we’ll be able to turn things around.quickly. I hope, considering the long–standing friendship between our families, you can lend the Nelsons a helping hand.” Emyr rested one hand on the wheelchair and suddenly spoke up, “Who told you to wear that necklace?” Leah, who had been feeling pleased that Emyr remembered her, froze in confusion. “Huh?” “That was a birthday gift I gave to Ms. Nelson. Who would be so presumptuous as to wear it themselves?” Leah’s face turned pale, her smile faltering.
The cool diamond necklace around her neck now felt painfully sharp against her skin.
Emyr gave them no respect, and his tone laced with mockery. “You’ve already kicked my fiancée out of the Nelson family. Without a fiancée, the engagement is off Who do you think you are to negotiate with me?”
!
He glanced at Leah, her face, flushed with shame, and said with a sneer, “Oh, the Nelsons are so clever with their little baby–switching tricks. But I’m not falling for it.”
At this point, all three of them could no longer keep their emotions in check.
Jonah frowned deeply. “Since Mr. Emyr has no interest we won’t trouble you any further today.”
He motioned for the others to leave, and the butler, Alfred, approached Leah, saying, “Please return it.”
Leah froze.
She looked over at Emyr, but the man, so dignified and untouchable, didn’t even glance her way.
His silent indifference said it all.
Unable to bear such humiliation, she ripped off the diamond necklace and threw it back at Alfred with force.
Once they left the small villa and got into the car, Leah’s tears broke free, streaming uncontrollably down. her face.
“Jonah, Milo, I’m so sorry… It’s all my fault for dragging everyone down…
Jonah, weighed down by the setback they’d faced with the Cross, glanced at his sister. Seeing her guilt, he couldn’t help but offer comfort. “Leah, this isn’t your fault. Don’t take it to heart.”
“Exactly, how is this your fault? It’s Emyr who’s gone too far!”
Milo quickly pulled out tissues to wipe Leah’s tears, grumbling as he did. “It’s all Charmaine’s fault, all of
it!”

“It’s all because of her. Ever since she came back home, everything has gone wrong. Who else could be to blame but her? If she hadn’t broken off the engagement with the Crosses at this critical moment, with the engagement still in place, Emyr would have no reason to abandon us.”
Milo slammed his fist on the seat, his frustration boiling over. “All the good fortune Leah brought to our family has been ruined by that jinx Charmaine. So unlucky!”
Jonah focused on driving and this time he didn’t contradict Milo’s words.
He frowned, stort of thoughts swirling in his mind.
“Have you seen enough?”
Charmaine strolled in through the side entrance, hands casually behind her back.
As soon as Emyr saw her, he expressed his disdain. “You were so brave before, yet now you’re cowering outside, scared by the Nelsons.”
Charmaine smiled sweetly, all charm, “Oh, I didn’t want to come out and distract you from your heroic deeds, Mr. Emyr.”
Emyr’s disdain was palpable, even in the way he flicked his hair. “Flatterer.”
Alfred and the others couldn’t help but grin.
Emyr’s attitude toward Charmaine was a clear double standard compared to how he treated everyone else,
Charmaine went around behind Emyr and started pushing his wheelchair.
Leaning in close, she whispered, “I appreciate all your help, Mr. Emyr.”
What she said was true and came from her heart.
Neither the Reads nor the Nelsons ever really protected her.
Who would have thought I’d find that kind of protection from my past life fiancé?
It’s ironic, isn’t it?
As she spoke, her breath lightly brushed against Emyr’s ear, sending a slight shiver down his spine.
He subconsciously tilted his head and noticed a bit of her collarbone peeking out from her neckline.
Her skin was fair and as smooth as porcelain, and he could almost feel the warmth of it against his fingertips,
Emyr’s eyes narrowed, and a dark look crossed his face
