Only then did she realize that what Willard had said to Zayn at the dinner table wasn’t just empty talk.
Micah sounded surprised. “Master, you didn’t know? I thought Master Field would’ve given you a heads- up…
Charmaine sighed. “Nope. That old man hasn’t even replied to my messages. Who knows what sneaky little scheme he’s brewing this time.”
Micah fell silent.
The national healer who was someone countless people dreamed of meeting just once, had been reduced to nothing more than a ‘scheming old man‘ in Charmaine’s eyes.
However, Charmaine wasn’t in a hurry. Instead, she began making preparations.
Early the next morning, she leaned against the bathroom doorframe, rubbing her eyes, and asked Emyr, who was freshening up, “Are you going to be busy these next few days?”
Emyr met her gaze in the mirror. “Why?”
“I want to take you to the hospital for a full–body scan,” she said.
Emyr frowned slightly. “A scan?”
“Yes.” Charmaine nodded. “The needle treatments and herbal baths have been going on for a while now. I want to check the progress. There might still be some residual sluggishness in your body that isn’t fully showing, but medical equipment can detect even the smallest changes.”
A flicker of something unreadable flashed through Emyr’s dark eyes.
His voice was slightly husky, perhaps from just waking up, and his deep gaze locked onto Charmaine’s fair, delicate face. “And if the results show no improvement?”

Emyr’s lips quirked slightly. “You’re that confident?”
“Of course!”
Charmaine was at least 90% certain. Even if Emyr wasn’t able to stand up just yet, the nerve and joint functions in his legs had definitely improved.

With full confidence in her medical skills, she was ready to prove it.
Emyr’s thoughts stirred slightly.
However, before he could say anything, the butler’s urgent voice rang from outside. “Mr. Emyr, Mr. Willard has come causing trouble at the door!”
Charmaine’s expression immediately darkened. She was about to step forward when Emyr stopped her.
“You don’t need to deal with this. They’re here at the Cross Residence, I’ll handle it.”
His tone left no room for argument. “Push me downstairs.”
Charmaine had no choice but to comply.
As soon as they stepped out of the elevator, Willard’s furious shouting echoed through the house.
“Charmaine! You ungrateful wr*tch, get out here!”
Charmaine’s hands instinctively tightened on the wheelchair handles and her expression turned cold.
In the reception hall, Emyr’s voice rang out, calm yet sharp as a blade. “Mr. Nelson, how could you barge into my place so brazenly? Am I nothing in your eyes?”
His presence was chilling, not yielding even the slightest bit to Willard’s so–called seniority.
Willard spun around, and the moment his eyes landed on Charmaine, the fury in his chest roared even higher.
He instinctively took a step toward her, his expression twisted with rage.
However, the second he met Emyr’s icy, indifferent gaze, a chill ran down his spine. His body stiffened on
instinct.
Still, his mouth refused to back down. “Enough with the nonsense, Emyr. Our families have been on good terms for generations! I was even close friends with your parents. Are you really going to turn against your elders and betray years of friendship all for a woman?”
The only thing he could rely on here was his status as an elder.
Upon hearing that, Emyr merely chuckled mockingly.
“There are no elders at the Crosses,” he said indifferently. “I am the head of this household. Your past ties with my parents have nothing to do with me.”
Willard’s eyes widened, momentarily speechless. “You-!”
Left with no other choice, he turned his glare onto Charmaine. “You ungrateful little wretch! I knew you’d bring disaster upon my family! Are you targeting Milo now?”
Charmaine’s expression remained blank.
“I don’t understand what vou’re saving. Mr. Nelson, why are vou barking like a dog here?”
