Chapter 162 Leah’s Grandpa?
At the hospital.
Leah only suffered minor wounds, but the head physician still advised her to remain at the hospital for the night under supervision.
Olympia stayed by her side throughout the night. When visiting hours came to an end, she made sure Leah would look after herself before leaving.
As soon as the Nelsons departed, the frail Leah swiftly got out of bed, locked the door, and initiated a video call.
It didn’t take long for Sophie to pick up. Her face was swollen and her voice muffled as she asked, “Leah, how are you? Will the Nelsons hold this against you?”
Leah curled her lips into a smug smile. “Of course not. Everyone sympathizes with me. They know I had nothing to do with it, and Jonah has already handled everything.”
Earlier that day, she had overheard an argument in the study and discovered that Bennett had acted recklessly behind her back. In a moment of urgency, she had to come up with a way to escape the situation. Luckily, the Nelsons‘ member didn’t suspect her. They had watched her blame herself for the injuries and felt nothing but guilt and concern for her.
Sophie let out a breath of relief. “That’s great. Leah, things are really bad for your dad right now. You are our family’s last hope, so you can’t afford to slip up!”
Leah’s eyes flickered with contempt. “You only have yourselves to blame for messing with Charmaine without thinking things through. If you had handled it right, this wouldn’t have happened!”
If things had gone according to plan and Charmaine had been ruined by that despicable se*mbag, she would have been overjoyed.
But now? Bennett and his people had tried to pull a fast one, only to end up losing more than they bargained for and dragging herself into the mess instead!
What a disaster!
Before Sophie could respond, Bennett, who was resting on the hospital bed behind her, suddenly struggled to sit up.
His face was heavily bandaged like a mummy, but he still muttered bitterly, “It’s all because of Milo Nelson! If he hadn’t interfered, I would have settled my debts and wouldn’t be in this mess!”
After swearing in frustration, Bennett winced as a sharp pain shot through his body.
His wounds weren’t fatal, but they sure hurt like hell!
Listening to this, Leah’s eyes darkened slightly, her tone turning icy. “Milo isn’t the same as before. He used to treat me like his most cherished sister, but now he’s standing with Charmaine. He’s ruined our plans
more than once.”
“Exactly! If he hadn’t given those things back to Charmaine, we wouldn’t be in this disaster right now!” Sophie fumed.

“Earlier today, he even suggested to Willard and Olympia in the study room that Charmaine should be brought back to the house.”
“What did you just say?”
Bennett’s eyes widened in disbelief. “How did the Nelsons respond?”
“As expected, they refused.” Leah lifted her chin arrogantly. “But if this keeps up, Milo will only cause more trouble. If he uncovers things he shouldn’t… A brother who brings me nothing but trouble and inconvenience is unnecessary.”
Her expression remained unreadable as she casually remarked, “Do you think Grandpa might have a
solution for us?”
Bennett and Sophie stiffened at her words. They exchanged looks, immediately grasping the meaning behind each other’s gaze.
Sophie declared, “No matter what, I’m heading back to the countryside tomorrow to find your grandpa. We can’t let you suffer like this!”
Leah sneered and pressed, “Do whatever is needed, but you all better gather the money fast. I’m out of this. You made a mistake going after Charmaine. No matter how much the Nelsons despise her, what you did was nothing short of trampling on their dignity.”
Bennett was well aware of how serious things had become. “I understand, Sweetheart. Can you also think of a way to help me out?”
Leah answered nonchalantly, “Yeah, yeah, I got it.”
The following morning.
Charmaine woke up to find that Emyr, who had been staying beside her, was already gone.
She paid no mind to it and headed toward the bathroom while scrolling through her phone. A message from Rex popped up.
Rex texted, “That old man, Bennett Read, actually put his house and car on the market. He’s completely cornered this time, right? Haha!”
Turning on the faucet, Charmaine splashed water on her face, then slipped in a Bluetooth earpiece and dialed a number.
After a few rings, a drowsy and gentle voice mumbled, “Boss… it’s so early…”
Charmaine could easily picture Mia on the other end of the line, probably rubbing her sleepy eyes, looking utterly adorable with her drowsy expression.
Without realizing it, her tone grew gentler. “Mia, are you still in bed?”
Mia let out a sleepy yawn. “Yeah… I ended up staying up all night by accident…”
Charmaine sighed and scolded lightly, “You need to take care of yourself. Don’t you still want to grow a few
more inches?”

Mia groaned. “Boss, my bones stopped growing ages ago. I’m stuck at this height forever….
