“Do you think we could take Charmaine back?”
One simple question stirred up a storm!

Willard and Olympia’s expressions changed in an instant–surprise, confusion, panic, disappointment, and
anger.
In just a moment, he went through a whirlwind of emotions.
Finally, Willard struggled to calm the storm brewing inside him. With a controlled voice, he snapped at Milo, “What’s going on with you lately? Why do you keep siding with an outsider?”
The word “outsider” was emphasized heavily by Willard.
“No, Dad, even if the relationship is cut off, Charmaine still carries our family’s blood. She’s your daughter. my real sister.”
“Ridiculous!”
Willard, furious, pointed his finger at Milo’s nose. “Wasn’t it you who said there was only one sister in this life? You were the one who kicked her out, and now you’re the one trying to bring her back? Milo, I think you’ve lost your mind!”
Hearing the harsh scolding, Milo lowered his head in shame.
“Yes, back then I didn’t know what kind of life she had. Dad, she had a terrible time with the Reads, like at maid, treated terribly. The Reads deliberately corrupted her. She isn’t as hopeless as they made her out to be
“Enough! So what if we didn’t know? How does her past at the Reads change anything? She was already restless when she was with us, causing chaos in the whole family!”
Seeing her husband getting worked up, Olympia stepped in to calm him down..
Then, she walked over to her son, placing a hand on his shoulder, and gently said, “Milo, I know you’re kind–hearted, just like your brothers. You’re all so innocent and don’t understand how people can be so cruel.”
Milo was in shock, unable to believe his mother would say such things about her own daughter.
“Mom, are you suggesting that Charmaine has some ulterior motive and is using me?”
For the first time, he felt like his parents were utterly unreasonable.
He couldn’t help but feel a deep sadness for Charmaine.
When she was here, facing the accusation of being “abandoned by everyone” by the family, did she feel the same frustration and helplessness?
Jonah, who had been quiet all this time, frowned as he watched his parents‘ reaction.
Was he reading too much into it? Why did his parents hold such strong bias and hostility toward Charmaine?

Chapter 157 Outsider
Jonah had always been preoccupied with work and rarely paid attention to family matters.

But after observing things for a while, he began to feel like there might be something they didn’t know.
Olympia, usually so composed, briefly showed an unusual expression. “It’s not that I doubt her. I’m just trying to protect you and Leah. Otherwise, tell me–why would Charmaine insist on severing ties with the family and now she is deceiving you to have pity on her?”
Milo clenched his fists tightly.
“It has nothing to do with her. She’s always been cold and doesn’t want to see me. It was my decision to follow her, and I’ve been observing things closely.
The reason I want her back is because something really awful happened last night.”
Milo lowered his voice as he briefly mentioned how Bennett and Sophie tried to sell Charmaine to Gordon.
After hearing this, Willard and Olympia’s faces turned even more grim.
“Outrageous!”
Willard’s face darkened with fury. “Bennett got himself into this mess and can’t even pay his debts, and now he wants to sell Charmaine!”
No matter how much Willard and Olympia disliked Charmaine, or how much she was like a thorn in their side, they couldn’t stand anyone else trying to touch that thorn!
“It’s because Bennett went too far that I realized, if we don’t step in, more people will try to harm her in the future. But if she holds onto the Nelsons‘ name, who would dare make a move on her?”
Willard and Olympia remained silent, but Jonah finally spoke up. “Mom, Dad, no matter how you look at it, the Reads were in the wrong. Charmaine was almost hurt, and if Milo hadn’t been there, things could’ve turned out horribly.”
“Yeah. Jonah is right. She even helped him out during the South City development. She’s really not as bad as we thought.”
Milo clenched his teeth. “The real culprits are those two from the Reads. They failed to raise Charmaine properly, and now that they know she’s not their child, they want to use her to settle their debts, I disgusting!
Jonah glanced at his parents and suggested, “We don’t need to rush with accepting her back. How about we invite her over for a meal, in my name, as a way to show gratitude?”
Milo’s eyes brightened. Jonah!”
