There was still no update from Charmaine’s side, and on Gordon’s end, he was angrily demanding the money. The debt collectors had even made it to the entrance of the neighborhood. He was surrounded on all sides, and it even felt like his soul was slipping away,
Sophie rushed downstairs, crying, “What are we going to do? Leah won’t answer her phone. What should we do? Ah!”
As soon as Sophie approached Bennett, he slapped her, knocking her to the ground.
“Useless! You can’t even keep an eye on one person!” Bennett yelled, furious, as he punched and kicked her. “If it weren’t for you. I would’ve cleared my debts by now! What kind of curse do I have to end up with at wife like you?”
Sophie cried out in pain. Bennett harshly yanked her hair, leaving her no chance to escape.
Suddenly, Bennett’s assistant called. “Mr. Read, Mr. Moritz’s company has been caught for illegal operations, tax evasion amounting to billions. They’ve already been taken in for investigation. It looks like they’ll be locked up for decades!”
Bennett’s movements stopped instantly. He stood there, dazed for a moment, before bursting into laughter, a look of relief crossing his face. “Hahaha, the heavens are still on my side! The heavens are still looking out for me!”
“Gordon’s done for, and the money from our private deal wasn’t notarized, so I don’t have to pay it back!”

Before she could finish her words, the front door of the Read residence was suddenly kicked open.
Both of them turned at the sound, their faces instantly shifting.
Bennett instinctively shivered. “Maverick! What brings you here?”
A man in a floral shirt swaggered into the Read residence, followed by three muscular henchmen holding baseball bats.
“Where’s the money?”
Bennett’s smile instantly vanished, and he almost collapsed to his knees in fear, frantically raising his hands in surrender.

With that, Maverick nodded to his men. One of the henchmen lifted his bat and smashed the koi pond in the entryway to pieces.
The fat, colorful koi flopped helplessly on the ground, struggling and writhing in vain.
Bennett’s eyes nearly popped out of his head, and he almost spat blood.

The thugs paused.

Originally, he had planned to gamble with the three million. If he won, he could pay off the debt in one go, and maybe even make a big profit!

There was a cracking sound, but Bennett couldn’t even scream. His face turned pale, like a corpse.
