Seeing the genuine sparkle in her eyes and the way her lips curved into a smile, which didn’t seem the least bit forced, Emyr’s expression darkened instantly.
“Did you think I’d be interested in you?”
As always, Emyr remained aloof and arrogant, his tone filled with disdain. “Don’t kid yourself.”
Charmaine wasn’t fazed by his harsh words. Once she confirmed that Emyr had no special feelings for her. she felt a wave of relief.
“You’re right. How could a mere maid like me even dream of catching the eye of someone at the top of the pyramid?”
With a playful smile, Charmaine moved back to her original spot. “I know my place.”
Tad didn’t dare say a word, cautiously glancing at Emyr through the rearview mirror.
Emyr’s face was ice–cold, his eyes sharp with barely contained fury, as if he wanted to destroy the entire car Meanwhile, Charmaine was happily gazing out the window, enjoying the scenery.
Seeing this, Tad couldn’t help but worry on Emyr’s behalf. He wished Charmaine would be a little more. tactful.
After returning from Freya’s apartment, Charmaine could sense that Emyr was in a foul mood.
She figured it was probably because of that fake Basil.
After they got back, she made sure to thank Micah, as it was thanks to him that she managed to expose the imposter.
Micah sighed. “Who would’ve thought that after all these years since Master Field left the field, someone would still dare to impersonate him and scam people–100 million dollars, no less! That’s insane!”
Charmaine chuckled. “They don’t always get away with that kind of money.”
Micah laughed along and shared some juicy details.
“Don’t be so sure. After we sent the guy to the police, we found out he’d conned quite a few regular patients too. They only lost a few hundred or thousand dollars each, but this time was different. Even Master Field was shocked, wondering who could be so unlucky to lose that much money, haha. If that scammer had pulled it off, he could’ve retired comfortably. But he ran into you instead.”
Charmaine smiled and said, “You could say I did him a favor. If he had managed to escape with that hundred million, Emyr would’ve turned all of Eragos upside down to hunt him down.”
“Haha, true that.” Micah shifted the topic. “By the way, my Master asked when you’d be coming to Beacon Hospital to carry on Master Field’s legacy?”

“Got it. My Master’s always been like that. After all, even someone as talented as me left to open a cosmetic clinic and testing facility. The students at the hospital now are pretty hit or miss, and it’s been bothering
him.”
Charmaine remained silent. This wasn’t something she could help with.
After hanging up the call, Charmaine thought about asking Emyr what he wanted for dinner, only to realize he’d already left without a word.
She frowned slightly. “Why do I get the feeling he’s mad at me?”
Just then, her phone buzzed with a new message.
As she read it, her expression turned cold.
Ar the penthouse of a seven–star hotel, Shawn and a few others had gathered upon hearing that Emyr had been scammed out of 100 million dollars. They threw together an impromptu drinking session, claiming it was to console him..
But in reality…
“Hahaha! One hundred million dollars! Today I finally got to witness Mr. Emyr’s deep pockets firsthand!”
Shawn was laughing so hard he nearly dropped his wine glass, staining the multi–million–dollar luxury sofa. beneath him.
Sinnova kicked him. “Enough already. If you keep laughing, Emyr might just destroy you.”
He made a throat–slitting gesture.
Shawn quickly straightened up, but within seconds, he burst out laughing again and rolled to the other side of the room to avoid Emyr’s wrath.
Keon, looking exasperated, poured Emyr a glass of champagne and offered it with a calm voice. “At least it didn’t turn into a bigger disaster.”
Emyr took the glass and downed it in one go as if trying to vent his frustration.
Keon was a little surprised. He knew Emyr well–he wasn’t the type to get hung up on appearances. If this scam had angered him so much, Keon couldn’t help but wonder if there was something else bothering him.

Veronica lowered her head even further. “Well, my parents are hosting dinner tonight to discuss a business deal. They’ve been trying for a while now, but the other party won’t budge until the very last moment. When they heard you were here, they asked me to see if
Her voice grew quieter as she spoke, as if overwhelmed with shame but left with no other choice.
“I was wondering if you could come down to the private room with me–just make an appearance. With you there, they’ll agree to the deal.”
After finishing. Veronica watched Emyr’s expression carefully. His face remained unreadable.
Fearing that she had angered him, she quickly panicked and tried to backtrack, her tone hurried. “I’m sorry, Mr. Emyr, I shouldn’t have asked such an unreasonable favor. Just pretend I never said anything!”
The request was indeed laughable to Emyr.
Veronica’s family was only a branch of the Jameses, and even Keon wouldn’t dare to openly take advantage of Emyr like this..
But Emyr remained expressionless.
After their initial encounter, Emyr had instructed Tad to investigate Veronica’s position within the James family.
Her parents favored sons over daughters, leaving Veronica with little presence at home–she was treated no better than a servant, constantly ordered around and disregarded. Only because of her association with Emyr had her status within the family improved, allowing her to enjoy a slightly better life.
She had even sent him several voice messages to thank him and invite him to dinner.
Listening to her pleading now, Emyr found her unexpected visit bothersome but decided to suppress his
irritation.
After all, he had once promised to help her, even if she no longer remembered it and had become so timid and helpless.
Take me there.”
Veronica was stunned, thinking she had misheard.
“Mr. Emyr, are you saying….”
“He said he’d help you. How did you even muster the courage to ask him?” Shawn chuckled.
Sinnova stroked his chin, eyeing Emyr with an increasingly intrigued look. “Who would’ve thought? The once untouchable Mr. Emyr, who kept women at a distance, is now breaking all his rules–and even agreeing to something like this.”
